I am 100% in agreement with this. But I can't imagine the uproar this is going to cause in the anti-vaccine community.

You wrote my exact reaction.
What are those who just flat out won’t vaccinate do? I’m guessing it pertains to schools the most... they can’t possibly keep unvaccinated people out of public spaces in general bc that’s insane. But I can see needing records for school - which would mean more home schooling and possibly new ideas of private / religious schools? I doubt the yeshivas are going to follow
Curious and concerned all at once

I’m extremely happy about this as well.
I couldn’t care less what the anti vaxxers have to say. Move if you don’t like it (though many other states are going to folllw suit).
Religious freedom doesn’t trump the greater good. Period.

They can’t be kept out of public places but they won’t be able to go to school. The yeshivas may not have a choice- if they get even a nickel in state funds they will have to comply.

I think it’s fabulous! Especially since I am very close to a large measles outbreak.
I have an anti-vaccine relative in law and she’s not too happy. But she doesn’t live near an outbreak (but has brought her kids to visit).
ETA - back in October when the outbreak first began, our schools were told that unvaccinated individuals should stay home for the next three weeks. All of the kids at our elementary school have received the MMR and are up to date.

thrilled with this, and i'm no Cuomo fan.
I see them challenging it to the supreme court but good luck with that.
move to another planet if you think your religion or beliefs gives you the right to endanger others.

I am thrilled! But I just think all those that use to have religious exemptions will find some quack doctor and put in for a medical waiver.

I think it’s scary. Also there is another bill that will mandate children to get the gardisil shot and next will be mandated for the flu. Also keep in mind MANY of these children ARE vaccinated, only after a vaccine injury did the parents stop and then choose to not vax subsequent children.
Before you scream at me my husband is vaccine injured and in the 80s before the 1986bill doctors weren’t scared to admit it. Also no one does from this measles outbreak and there is no evidence it came from children w out the MMR shot.

There are no medical waivers in NY. Doctors cannot write them bc the state denies them.

Maybe I used the wrong terminology but I know for a fact that people have received vaccination exceptions for their medically fragile children.

New York state ends religious exemptions for vaccines
I saw someone on a FB page talk about how terrified they were that government is taking over their private lives, telling them what to do with their children, and what is this world coming to, etc. etc. Wow, people's heads are on fire. How come they can't just publish proof of religious doctrine declaring something about this? Um, maybe because it doesn't exist? I swear, people love to hear themselves talk.

The bill doesn't pertain to public spaces just schools. If this is really about the safety of our children how come they don't check the vaccine records of teachers, bus drivers, coaches etc? It would make more sense to start there. I would be more concerned with how corrupt our government officials are. Shortly after Cuomo signed the bill, Ilum Health Solutions, a subsidary of Merck announced it will be investing 48 million in Albany. The bill was actually dead in the Assembly Health Committee at 13-13. Sayegh was basically strong armed to change his vote.
Alot of the children affected are ones with disabilities. This can affect our districts in many ways. They are entitled by federal law to a free education. The NY bill is so poorly written, it was not though out at all. This can potentially cost our districts alot of money. I guess we will see how it all unfolds.

I'm wondering if the implementation of home schooling Through NY state will become the norm? Internet based learning seems to be the wave of the future so to speak, you think they'll be webcams in a class room teaching people at home? (I mean, I guess this is possible in general the way things are going, but now with this?)

But isn’t having a documented allergy/disability (and unable to be vaccinated) different than a religious exemption? Isn’t this bill only affecting those claiming religious reasons?

I see them challenging it to the supreme court but good luck with that.
With the current make-up of the Supreme Court, and the previous religious freedom cases that have made it and been successful, I wouldn't hang my hat on those 9 justices upholding this law.

I'm not sure about bus drivers, but teachers and coaches do have to be vaccinated. Every school I ever worked at required it, medical documents, vaccinations, etc.

Re: New York state ends religious exemptions for vaccines
This has nothing to do with public health. They are trying to strip parents of their rights.
Senate Bill S3899A 2019-2020 Legislative Session Provides treatment for sexually transmitted diseases to minors without a parent's or guardian's consent
Once this bill passes watch how quickly Gardasil gets added to the schedule. And with no exemptions in NY you have NO CHOICE.

There are kids that have been vaccinated and had did not react well. They make up a great number of families that are non-vacxinating.

It was discussed on the assembly floor. They said it is not a law that those professionals provide documentation. That doesn't mean that an employer can't ask.

That’s not a disability.
A child having a reaction to one vaccine doesn’t exclude them from having all other vaccines. It excludes them from having boosters of the vaccine they reacted to.
