Newborn Check Up
i had my baby on Feb 8 first pedia visit at feb 12 They're asking me again to come back on feb 20 for weight check up. Baby gain 1oz from last visit. Meaning theres nothing wrong with his weight gain. I did pay copay from first visit of $30 and another $30 on feb 20 they said, because it is not well visit. The insurance asked me if theres no problem with his weight why would i still come back for weight check up, Is it fine if i just wait for 2 more weeks for his well visit? Another $30 is too much for me since i dont have a job.

Re: Newborn Check Up
I believe it depends on whether/how quickly the baby is back to his or her birth weight. We had a few weight checks in the first month because it took her that long to get back to her birth weight and I was having problems nursing. She was only gaining 1-2 oz between weight checks which was not enough for where she should have been - it was an indication she was not eating enough (or getting enough BM from me). I don't think it is terribly uncommon to have weight checks in the first few weeks. The co-pay situation sucks but there must be a reason they're asking you to come back for another weight check. I'd push for an explanation.
Congrats on your newborn!

Re: Newborn Check Up
I had a weight check after 1st visit and wasnt asked to pay a copay... dd is formula fed and was gaining weight just fine but i guess i assumed it was standard to go in for that. Id call ped and explain situation to see how necessary the visit is.

Newborn Check Up
I would not rearrange visits so early. These appts are important in the beginning. Push off well visits when they get older not visits now.
I pay copays for any visit that is not a well visit and yes it's a lot in the beginning but it was the least of all the baby expenses and was for my DS health so I did it.

Newborn Check Up
I would go if they're asking you to. It's early in the game and they want to make sure the baby is gaining consistently. Two weeks is a long time for a newborn. How long was it between the visits where DC gained 1 oz? They want them to gain an ounce every day in the beginning.

Re: Newborn Check Up
I remember when my DD was born she was back and forth to the ped a lot in the beginning. I think it's normal for them to keep a close eye on the newborns. After the first few early weeks the visits were spaced out.
Personally, I wouldn't mess with the visits. It's annoying to have to pay so much money, I get that, but there is a reason they want to see the baby so much so I would make sure to be at all the appointments.

Re: Newborn Check Up
The first visit was no copay- just a well visit. I had to go back a week later for weight check (she did gain but was tiny) and I paid a copay for that.
Its not 100% accurate, but if you have a digital scale you can weigh yourself then weigh yourself holding DC and subtract. then if DC gained wait it out.

Re: Newborn Check Up
I think I went a few days after dd was born as a check up then the next week and then at month one. I think they charged me once and then it was all part of the well visit. I would ask the md office what's a well and what is a chargeable visit. Congrats

Newborn Check Up
the first visit has copay because it was not a well visit according to them. the second visit which is today is not well visit again so another 30 dollar copay. i talked to the doctor if there is a problem with the weight of my baby she said none but she has to weight again. i asked if its fine if i dont pay copay since its just a weigh in. she said NO. i asked if i can just wait for well visit which is on the next two weeks she said NO you have to come. in the first place she is not the doctor i chose for my newborn, i dont know why the doctor transfer me to her. i will try to come today and ask to see my chosen doctor.
