Re: newborn cold?
Not sure how old he is.
But if he is stuffy run a hot shower and stand in there with him. The steam will help loosen everything up.
Put a wedge under his mattress to help elevate him and sleep on an incline.
Run a cool midst humidifier.
If there is no fever I don't think it is necessary to call the ped.
Hope he feels better soon.

Ditto!! Wedge is a must!! Keeps the fluid out of their chest and ears!! Hot shower steam bath

Re: newborn cold?
Thanks! He is 10 weeks old - it doesn't seem bad just can hear a little congestion in the morning and then he coughs more during the day. I had stopped using the humidifier so maybe that's it - he sleeps on a wedge.

Re: newborn cold?
Would definitely recommend the humidifier, and also keeping your windows closed, vacuuming his room a lot and washing his sheets. No way trying to imply you have a dirty house - it's just that the pollen count is really really high and although it wouldn't be an allergy at his age the stuff in the air could just be irritating his nose and throat.

Re: newborn cold?
Agree with everyone about using the humidifier and saline with suction.
If he has a temperature at all, call your ped.
If you feel his breathing is starting to get labored, call the ped. Take off his shirt and look below his armpits when he breathes. If the skin is pulling in there you want to call the ped because a cold in babies can turn into upper respiratory infections brought on by the RSV virus and they end up working overtime to breathe.
If he starts having trouble eating because he is too congested, call the ped.
I only tell you this from the experience of my 2 week old DD having bronchiolitus from RSV. (she ended up being fine, just not fun with a 2 week old baby!)
If he is eating and sleeping fine and not working too hard to breathe and has no fever, just keep on doing what you are doing. Just make sure you are on the lookout for what I described above. If he doesn't have any of those symptoms, the ped really won't do much for you.
