Newborn diapers?

How many diapers does a new born go through a day?

I am trying to estimate how many newborn diapers I should buy.

I honestly feel clueless about so many things

I would go crazy. You can always run out to the store. The hospital only had size one unless the baby was a premie so my ds even at 6 lbs was in ones.

I wouldn't get newborn diapers. As pp said, the hospital only has them in ones. Get those. Rule of thumb though is that they get changed every time they eat, which is every 2 hours (sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less). So roughly 10-12 diapers a day at first.

I'd guess 10 a day, maybe more. DD was in newborn for about 6 weeks and leaked when we tried to switch to size 1 at one month.

honestly unless your baby is less than 6lb, I would probably just go to size 1. DS was in newborn diapers for like a week or 2 (and that's only because we had gotten some newborn diapers at my shower, that I didn't register for). We easily went through about 12-15 diapers a day in the beginning.

I wouldn't get newborns. I never used them. My friend had multiples 10 weeks early, and the hospital didn't even use newborns on them...

My DD Was 7.5 lbs at birth and wore newborn diapers for about a month. I liked the fit better and the umbilical cutout. She used about 10 per day.

I also gave birth at Winthrop and I'm almost certain they had NB size bc I swiped a bunch from there!!

My hospital had nb size. DD was 7 lbs 10 oz at birth and wore nb diapers for well over one month, and they were big on her.

DS was 8.4 and wore newborns for 4 weeks. He went through a lot of diapers in the beginning (10-12 a day).

I think we went through about 150 before we decided to just switch to size 1's.

crashing but i think we used them for like, a week (whatever we took from hospital)... then went straight to size 1's. My DS was almost 8 lbs at birth.

Thanks everyone, I have one package of newborn diapers I wil hang out to and then just buy size 1 diapers

We had one pack of nb size, we ended up needed more cause they fit better than the ones (hospital only used size 1 rolled over)

I just sent DH out to the store to get them it was no big deal...

I used the size 1s from the hospital but then I switched to newborn size when I ran out of those. The newborn size fit so much better and DD was in newborn size for a while, I'd say around 8 weeks. The 1s were just SO big on her, even when I folded it down.

That being said, we probably went through around 12-15 per day. I EBF and she would poop every time she ate, plus in-between feedings, not to mention the pee diapers in addition to the poopy ones.

Size one was way too big on my son, so we used newborn. I went through two regular size packs.

Not too many. DD pretty much only wore whatever she received as gifts and then went straight into size 1s. She also wore size 1s in the hospital.

My first dc never wore newborn anything. Lol we started at hospital in size 1.

My hospital had the babies in Newborns. My DS was 6.8 and they were too big. Every time he pooped, it leaked out the leg holes cause his legs were so skinny. We ended up getting preemie diapers for about 2 weeks, then moved to N for about month and then finally onto size 1.

My Youngest DD was 5lbs even and wore NB size for almost 3 months. With my other DC I've always bought NB and they wore them for the first month. So for average size babies maybe 2-3 cases for the first month.

I'd say about 10 a day. I did have DS in newborn size for about 4-6 weeks. Then I switched him to size 1. I can't remember what size the hospital had. But I was sent home with about 5-6 bags of diaper!

DH went and bought some huggies NB while we were in the hosptial (since i went early). I liked how they were more fitted on him than the s1 (he was 7lb 4oz when we came come).

Our DS is 2 weeks tomorrow - we go through about 8-10 diapers a day. He was born almost 9pds, so from day one, he's been in size 1 diapers and we never used any newborn.
