Re: newborn holiday gift question
ds was only 3 months old last xmas... so what dh and i did was we actually each went out seperately an bought the baby a few toys and then we exchanged them... we bought items that would be good throughout the year since ds wouldnt be having a major gift even until september... so we bought some 6 month gtoys and some 9 month toys.. it was great because whenever he was bored we could take another toy out... and by going out individually we had some excitement when opening up ds's gifts

Re: newborn holiday gift question
We aren't. She'll be about 5 weeks old and has SO much stuff already that we haven't even used. It feels wasteful to me to buy more on top of that.

Re: newborn holiday gift question
Yes, I bought DS to be a few little things. I want his big sister to give them to him so that she knows not everything is for her. I think it is important for her to learn to give to others.
DH thought I was nuts for buying a few things.

Re: newborn holiday gift question
I went to Toys R Us today and had a blast. My DS is only 9 weeks old so we got stuff for when he is 6 months. I justified it to my DH by reminding him that his bday isn't until October. He didn't agree but went along with it.
We got Joshua the Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Farm, the Laugh & Learn Musical Table, a FP shape sorter, a FP toy with pop up blocks that looks like a little train, and an Lamaze toy that he can use now. I had 2 coupons so we only spent like $155.
I had other toys in the cart but DH reminded me that he can't play with any of them yet and that we would return to TRU at some point.
I still want to get him some rattles and one of those toys that project an image on the ceiling with music. He needs stuff for now. I feel bad that he doesn't really have toys.
