next step formula

how many of you switched from the original formula to the next step after 9 months and if you did how was the transition and how old was your child when you did it?

I switched to a follow on formula when Noah was about 9 months, didn't make any difference to him. He would drink paint as long as it was cold and white.

I did and he LOVES it!! I just switched right over one day to a full bottle of Next Step and have been on every since. I will not put Andrew on Milk until he is about 1 1/2 - 2. I then I will switch to Organic Milk.

Why is milk bad for you????


It is just my own research I have done.

Dairy products have been shown to make a greater contribution to osteoporosis, kidney problems, and certain forms of cancers. (1) In addition, dairy products are the leading culprit in food allergies. And low-fat varieties are actually more allergenic due to higher protein concentration. (2) In addition, it has been stated that dairy products cause a myraid of problems within the small intestines by interfering with intestinal permeability, thereby allowing large fragments of proteins to enter into the blood stream. This is also known as "leaky gut syndrome". This can lead to a host of physical problems, including irritable bowel syndrome, malabsorption of nutrients, obesity and mineral and amino acid deficiencies. (3)

It is just something that I feel very strongly about.


where did you get this information?
How can milk(good source of calcium) lead to osteoporosis?
I have never heard of anyone having these problems from milk

I drink a ton of milk and have no health problems like you describe. I have never heard of anyone having those problems from milk either. Perhaps an allergy to it, but that doesn't come from drinking milk. The only issue I have heard of are the antibiotics in milk and how they make children start puberty earlier than they should.

Unless you are on a soy formula, the majority of formulas are cows milk based. Its an interesting concept, and I know that you aren't the only person to believe in it, but if ome thinks milk is bad, one would have to cut all dairy out of their diets, as even milk proteins and trace amounts of milk (which are even in things like margerine) would have to be eliminated from yours and your childs diet.

It is just my own personal decision that I discussed with my ped. and we all feel that this is the best decision for Andrew.

It is obviously not for everyone but we are very confident we are making the right choice. He will eventually be on milk but only Organic.

Dh and I do not drink milk and we do limit greatly the amount of dairy in our diet.

I also wanted to add that I think the ped is soo on board with this because Andrew does not eat table food. He chokes on everything so he is not getting enough nutrients from his baby food or infant formula. And cows milk will still not give him the vitamins he needs.

I use Next Step - I started when she was about 9 months. I think its a total marketing ploy, but I use it because they send great coupons

eta: I'm not delaying her starting milk. She's almost 11 months, so I'll start transitioning soon.

No way. I think all these next step formulas are just a way for the formula companies to hold onto customers who would otherwise switch to milk. They scare people into believing it's so much better than milk so you cough up the $$. Of course, this is JMO!

I'm going to partially switch to next step. I plan on giving DD 2 cups with milk and 2 cups with next step when she turns 1 (next month). She still doesn't eat regular food well and I want her to get the added nutrition until she is eating more food. I'll probably give the next step until she's 18 months old.

IMO, this next setp formula IS a ploy, really gets formula users to hang on after children are given the go ahead to have milk....

BUT----some children arent great eaters, some can benefit from the nutrients from this formula....

and again, other children, the majority i believe, are great eaters and great milk drinkers, and get more than enough of the essentials from what they eat on a daily basis....PLUS, multi vitamins are great too. and even if your child is getting everything from veggies and fruits and dairy....a always think a vitamin def cant hurt, and whatever they dont use, gets excreted anyway...

your decision- im sure youll do what u feel is best!!
