night two of CIO- calling CIO experts
so tuesday was night one of cio with 5.5 month old. put him down at 7ish with a paci. he went straight to sleep. up at 8- cried for 20 minutes 10-5 minutes of crying then slept for FIVE hours- which he never does 3 am- 10 minutes 3:30- 10 minutes 4:15- crying, i went and got him and nursed ( i normally nurse then) 5,5:30,6:30-low level fussing for a few mintuees up at 7:30 for the day now i feel like an awful mother evenm though the longest he went was only 20 minutes. it could have been worse.
tongiht, he went down at 7 with his paci. think it will be better or worse tonight?
update: last night- night 2- he slept from 7-4 am. fussed a bit at 4, went back ot sleep. up at 5, real crying, i nursed. then he slept till 6:30. at 6:30 i took him into my bed
another question: he normally wakes at 7:30 for the day. but i know the CIO people (weissbluth, ferber) all say after 6 am, go to them. do i get him when he wakes at 6:30? can i get him and put him in bed wiht me wiht a paci? he will doze this way. or is this negating the CIO?
how do you think tonight will be? btw, if that was it- 1 night of crying- I will be the happiest person

Re: night one of CIO- DONE
In my CIO experience- the hardest part for me was the easiest for you! DD could not go down to sleep- it took 2 nights of crying to get her to sleep in her crib.
I think it will definitely get better each night- just hang in there! It's sooo worth it IMO

Re: night one of CIO- DONE
Good luck tonight! I think tonight might be better - isn't it supposed to get easier by night 2? It sounds like he did pretty good last night, though. Hopefully, you'll be starting out 2010 with no problems.

Re: night one of CIO- DONE
it's ok! that's not bad at all-the five hour stretch is good if he's never done that before! it might even get better if you are consistent and build on the progress from last night. stick with it. as long as he's not hysterical for hours or vomiting i think it's ok! and if he's healthy and not sick. you are not an awful mother. it is your job to teach your child to rely on himself to get back to sleep if he needs you to teach him. not everyone is blessed with a baby that does it on their own. if you interfere every time he makes a noise he'll never learn. i am more of a fan of doing it at this age b.c then as they grow older I think it's harder b/c they are more aware etc.. hang in there! you'll be happy you did!
