No more food pyramid!

Replacing the old pyramid is a new symbol: MyPlate. Along with this comes "6 New healthy-eating rules"

Re: No more food pyramid!

considering the last pyramid "mypyramid" was a flop, this one looks better. They took out the oils and fat group which is odd. Either way it is still a USDA document and a lot of lobbying from different groups go into making it (dairy for calcium -there are other sources of calcium)

I like the 1/2 plate of fruits and veggies. I think the food pyramid focused on grains too much.

I think it is about time! Hopefully people will educate themselves and follow the "rules" a bit more since America is having such a major obesity problem. I want our kids to grow up healthier than is being predicted. Chat Icon

I think as a really basic level of education, it's a very effective graphic and easy to remember. With so much information out there, pros and cons for each group, I think this is a good starting point and something people can go back to.

Wonder why they removed the fats group?!!! When I first dieted to lose weight, because of being diagnosed with diabetes, I was told I could have three servings of fats daily, which included oil, margarine, salad dressing. Normally I skipped them, until I was told at my Dr. appt. that I should not skip them, that I needed them. Mary

I like the graphic too; More friendly than a pyramid, because a plate actually has ties to food/diet. Mary
