Re: North Fork Wineries
We normally hit as many as we can on our way to Greenport.
Jamesport, Jason, Laurel Lakes & Martha Clara are some of my favs. I always make my last stop at Pindar. From there I head on to Greenport and eat at Claudio's. There are a few of them, all of them yummy.
One stop I would do before you hit the wineries is Long Island Potato Vodka in Baiting Hollow.

I like to start at Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard. My other favorites are Pindar, Sherwood House, Duck Walk, Osprey's Dominion, Macari, and Peconic Bay.

Re: North Fork Wineries
My absolute favorite is Raphael. I also really love Pugliese, Bedell, Palmer's, Sherwood House and Sparkling Pointe (great if you love sparkling whites!).
I think that Osprey's Dominion, Baiting Hollow, Pugliese, and Martha Clara are good, but not my absolute favorites.
Pindar is ok. Duck Walk is very hit or miss for me, and there is one employee who works there that drives me insane every time I have gone, so I am not going there for awhile!

Re: North Fork Wineries
Our fav's are Pindar, Laurel Lake, martha clara and Osprey. Personally, no one we went with like Vineyard 48... so I recommend not stopping there!
Also... lobster roll is a great place to eat and a stop at Briemiere farms is always a must!

Baiting Hollow allows outside food at the picnic tables, but not on the deck or patio. Sherwood House allows outside food. Those are the only two that I've eaten at, but there are many others, I think.

Re: North Fork Wineries
I think almost all of them allow you to bring outside food.
Raphael is beautiful but I feel like they are always closed for private events!
Sparkling Pointe is also beautiful but the most expensive tastings I have found out there (so if you don't like sparkling wine, skip it!).
I always love Bedell and Laurel Lake too... Martha Clara usually has a lot of other stuff going on too which is nice - craft fairs or music or something.
And I always enjoy wines I get or taste at Roanoke.

Re: North Fork Wineries
The wineries I really like are Shinn, Bedel, and Pindar.
A Mano is a nice restaurant in Mattituck. Noah's in Greenport is delicious as well. It has a small plates menu as well as entrees.

A lot of them do. You can at Laurel Lake. During the week (not busy) they told me we could do a picnic on the grass outside and they would even bring the tasting to me. Martha Clara has a HUGE covered picnic area with tables. I did not do a tasting at Martha Clara but I got a glass of wine from inside and brought it to the picnic area. Pindar will allow picnic too but you have to go in the back. You cannot do the tasting outside.
My favorite for tasting are Pindar. I do like Laurel Lake and martha Clara but never did a tasting their. Duck is "OK". I don't know if they still do it but Pindar will give you a free tasting pass for Ducks if you do a tasting with them.

Re: North Fork Wineries
Thanks to all who answered about the picnics. We come from NE Queens, so a trip to the wineries is a long drive for us.

Re: North Fork Wineries
We usually just wing it with the vineyards. Sometimes you will plan to go to one and get there and it is just too crowded.
As far as food, there are a bunch of places in greenport. We love going to Cheese Emporium for sandwhiches!

Re: North Fork Wineries
IMO, paumanok, bedell, and lenz (the "old vines" flight) have the best wine. croteaux (in east cutchogue/peconic) is a gorgeously french winery that just does roses--i recommend doing the flight of all 6 wines since the second 3 are the better ones. they have an adorable courtyard that'll make you feel like you're in provence.
jamesport is a good place to start because you can eat there so you're not drinking on an empty stomach. the wine is pretty mediocre tho. if you're looking for snack, there's also the cheese shop on love lane in mattituck--a great place to get the makings for a picnic or to sit and have fondue.
ETA: paumanok, bedell, and lenz all have an outside picnic area and allow outside food. the space at lenz is a little limited tho (maybe not available on a busy day).
