Not sure what to do.. carseat related...and LONG!
so heres our little dilemma We bought our own stroller due to the $$.... the Peg preg. switch!!! i loved it because the seat switches around and also the frame acts as a snap and go with the viaggo car seat..
we registered for the viaggo car seat as well as an extra base.. but if you know the prices the seat is 278 and the base is another 100. so thats 378 for the car seat we were ok with this because it holds up for 30lb and 30in long. But now my shower is next week and it still hasnt been bought as well as the convertable hasnt been bought.
My mom also told me that alot of the neccessities still havent been purchased such as recieving blankets, diapers, bottles sheets. the important stuff..
My brother whos dd is only 9 months old has grown out of her snugride and its brand new (i bought it when she was born) and he has given it to my parents to use just as an extra.
Since our Viaggo hasnt been bought yet and we are most likely going to have a ton left to still buy. im contemplating just using the snugride and getting a snap n go and an extra base for that saving myself close to 250.00. that can be used on other stuff.
DH is not happy about this and really wants to use the viaggo since it works with the expensive stroller we just bought but im just thinking about it in the long run we can use all that money on other things we HAVE TO HAVE...
What would you do.. Spend the $$ on the expnesive car seat that she will most likley only use for 6-9 months or use the hand me down and get the snap n go?

That's a decision you have to make and one I would not make until your shower is over with. Try not to make yourself crazy by watching your registry list. If you do not get your car seat for your shower, you may get lots of gift cards so that you can. You never know if your aunts chipped in on a big gift card so that they did not have to lug a giant car seat box to your shower. Just let your shower happen, enjoy it and make all of your decisions after.

IMHO, as a BTDT, wait and see...things get bought last min. and sometimes work throws a shower and gets you a big gift from the group (my job got us 1 convertable and DH's job got the travel system). it might not be a bad idea though to use the snugride and snap and go and wait to get a stroller. honestly, your preferences might change...mine did and many others I know did too. I wish now that I used a snap and go, still gotten the maclaren quest sport, but gotten a BOB instead of the travel system. Your LO won't be in the carrier until 30lbs. unless you are a superhuman! Ha! At 16 lbs. DD was too much for me and too big. She fit in the convertible more. Spend the $ on some good convertible seats.

Honestly I didn't use my stroller till we were done with the infant carrier. The snap and go is so convenient. It is light and folds easy and you never have to wake the baby.
As a pp said your preferences may change.
Wait for your shower to be over and see where you are.

I agree - wait till after you shower to decide. I had enough credit at BBB and BRU to last me my sons first 10 months - and I am a bigtime shopaholic!

i agree. the snap and go has been so convenient and easy for me. My friend actually gave me her Quattro stroller system and the snap and go... i have seen the snap and go used on the parenting board for $20 too...
at this point wait for your shower. Dh and I both got stuff from our coworkers. Plus you may get essentials at the shower that you didnt register for.

Re: Not sure what to do.. carseat related...and LONG!
I agree with the pps. I really wish I had gotten the snap and go and waited on getting the stroller. DS was only in the infant car seat until 5 months because he was to tall for it. That and at about 16 lbs when we switched b/c he was getting to heavy to carry in the car seat all the time. We had a travel system and frankly as a BTDT mom it is a waste. The companies market it really well, but frankly I would not recommend it. We have a peg now and it is wonderful. DS is 21 months and we still use it. I would save your money and get a Britax for when your child needs the convertible car seat.

It may have been in an accident in which case it is not safe

thats why when u install the carseat you have it checked out by the appropriate person, such as the fire house, or police station. I dont believe you are putting your child in danger buying a car seat from someone that doesnt need it anymorel And you can definitely tell if a car seat is broken.

Re: Not sure what to do.. carseat related...and LONG!
We were kind of in the same situation. We decided to stick with the Switch and do a Graco Snugride with the Snap-N-Go frame.
I've heard very mixed reviews about the Viaggio (heavy, headrest is uncomfortable for baby, etc) and that made the decision a bit easier for us. That and the fact that we would need an extra base for DH's car, one for my parents and one for the woman we are using for daycare (she drives one other child to half-day preschool 2 times a week). It was cheaper for us just to do the Snugride, and I wasn't giving up my Switch for anything!

I'm sorry but you are 100% wrong. My DH is an emt and is certified to install carseats, there is most definitly damage that can be done to a carseat that even the best installer will not see. It is one thing to get a carseat from a family member as you know where the seat has been. I would never buy a carseat from craiglist or ebay and I am very laid back!
To the OP, I agree that you should wait to see what you get from your shower and then make a decision

First off, i was just giving her options if she needed extra bases. 2nd i was just giving her options for a carseat my friend is selling hers on craigslist and its in mint condition. 3rd my cousin is a fire fighter and has installed plenty of car seats, and some were shocker from craigsllist, and they were in EXCELLENT condition.
i happen to get lucky and get my car seat from a family memeber, but some people can afford to get everything they need to their newborn, im not saying megan but i wouldnt go and say you can get anything of good quality from craigslist, sometimes it helps people who cant spend alot of money, and you have to do research.

I didn't say they weren't in excellent condition, but there could be damage done to a seat that cannot be seen on the OUTSIDE of the seat!!
I'm just saying that it is not recommended to buy a carseat from Craigslist or Ebay.
Trust me, my DS has plenty of handmedowns clothes and gear, but a car seat is the one thing that I would buy new.

I would wait to see what happens with your shower, but don't stress too much about it....
and I agree about now buying a hand me down one from someone you don't know, at least everything I read has stated that...a car seat IMO is too important, wouldn't want to find out too late that it was damaged etc
