Not sure where to post---A-DOS next week, nervous!
Hey guys, My son has been getting EI since he was 18 months for Speech and Special Instruction. He's been doing great, dropped down to 1x a week for Special Instruction and his teacher doesn't think he will qualify past his next evaluation which is next month.
Now, we started the CPSE process. He will most likely be qualifying for Speech b/c of Articulation and Phonology, and PT he is just below so may qualify there too. Then we had the Psychological evaluation which I was not even concerned about. We did it when he was under the weather, bad idea. Anyway, within 20 minutes or so she said she had concerns of PDD-NOS. We were very surprised. He takes a little to warm up to new people. So after she tested him (which she thought he scored superior in comprehension), she had mentioned this concern. After that she did the social history with us and then he started to warm up to her! Smiles and stuff like that. But she wants another evaluation....and so next week we are getting the A-DOS done by another Psychologist. I'm just surprised that he even needs a 2nd eval w/ regards to this.
Any words of wisdom, I'm a nervous wreck.

The ADOS s a nice evaluation and the only eval that should be done with young children to determine autism or PDD-NOS.
Its an eval that sets up opportunities for the child to interact, engage, and communicate with the evaluator - there are a lot of toys and imitation and pretend play activities set up. Its a very difficult test for an evaluator to do well - I know 2 people that do it correctly. If you want their names please FM me!
Good luck!

Thanks for FM'ing me! Anyone else know good evaluators? I have one person doing it that comes recommended but I want to be sure it is someone who know what they're doing!
