Now I feel like a jerk! Gift related.
So the girl that I replaced in my current position at work (she quit) still freelances for us. We have a good working relationship and she's still close with my boss, but her and I are not really close (she lives in PA now). Anyway, I just got a package at work and she sent me a lovely and generous gift for the baby!
I'm blown away by her thoughtfulness. And now I feel like a jerk because she had a baby a few months ago and it never even occurred to me to send her something.
I'd like to send her something now, but then that seems so obviously pathetic and that I only thought of it because she sent me something. But is it worse to not send her something?
Ahh! I hate this feeling.
I know she isn't expecting anything from me, she's just a nice, thoughtful person who wanted to send something. But I feel terrible.
What would you do?

I hear what you're saying but I don't know what the correct answer is! That's a tough situation to be in. I have actually NOT given people gifts who had babies after me just because I didn't want to put them in that situation (they didn't give us anything).
I *think* I wouldn't send anything beyond a Thank You card.

i never send gifts expecting one in return. she likes you and wants to wish you well with a gift. send a nice, sincere thank you card, and that is suffucuent.
