NPR: Has anyone had a kidney stone?

What does it feel like?

At work today, I started to sweat, then get chills, then got this intense pain in my lower belly, back and down my left legChat Icon

I drank some water and felt slightly better, then it got WAYYYYYYY worse on my commute home, when I got home DH gave me 6 advil and water and I've been feeling a little better since then.

DH is an EMT and he thinks kidney stone.

Input?

AND WHY does this have to happen on Friday night?Chat Icon Chat Icon I don't want anything to interupt my time with my little manChat Icon

I have passed a kidney stone twice. I can only tell you that it hurt as bad as your worst contraction or worse. Sharp stabbing pain that started in very low back on one side eventually it moved to the front same side. It was the kind of pain where you can not speak or breath well. But mine was actively moving and passed. I have heard if there is one moving in and out of the duct but not yet in the tube it can be come and go pain. I hope you are wrong because it sucks! Good luck to you!Chat Icon

I have a kidney stone ( and its still perched in my left kidney as far as I know), and have had kidney troubles since my DD was born. The pain is sharp and intense. Mine was in my lower left back area. Not in front at all. I got fever of 105+, couldn't keep anything down and my blood pressure was so low I was nearly in a coma. I spent a week in the hospital, dealing with the kidney infection. Not fun.

ETA: I also had a stent put in for 6 weeks and then taken out. This was to open up the blockage I had in my ureter. I have no idea if my stone will pass on its own.
