NT false positives
Anyone ever get false positive with their NT blood tests? Did you have an amio or do the maternity21?

Re: NT false positives
I did. NT have a very high false positive rate. I was given 1:23 for downs. I did end up having an amino (maternity 21 wasn't available then) and ds was perfectly normal.

Re: NT false positives
My first trimester screen came back great...my second semester came back wit high risk of NTDs--my Dr. did not give me any numbers or ratios this time...just referred me to the genetic counselor. I am going for anatomy scan Monday morning (I'll be 21 weeks) and to the genetic counselor on Tuesday. I'll decide on amnio once I have more info.
Good luck to you!

NT false positives
I tested positive for NTD at 16 weeks and was sent immediately for an early anatomy scan where everything looked perfect.

This makes me feel better. I had my early anatomy scan at 16w5d, before my second tri screen, which was done around 18w. Everything looked good at my early anatomy scan, no concerns whatsoever...so I'm hoping the blood test at 18w was just a fluke.
So if everything looks good on the sono does that pretty much supersede the blood test for NTDs??

My doctor sent me to Perinatal Associates at Winthrop and I met with the head of Nero-natal and fetal medicine for all of Winthrop. He told me that the false positive can happen for a variety of reasons. If the sono is evaluated and looks good then that is what matters. He also essentially said that it is very rare for an ntd to develop if it is not viewable on the sono. That being said, my number on the blood test was just slightly above the abnormal number, which was another reason he was not that concerned with me. I don't know if his prognosis would have differed if my number was higher.
