Nursery school and Immunization Question

My DD is starting a program in September and they want an immunization record. The question I have is if I chose to delay the MMR (only had the measle shot so far), will they allow her in? I'm going to call them, but wanted to know if I have to fight or not.

Will they allow a letter stating this is my belief?

Just found out they will not be getting the mumps shot in until 2011.

TIA!!!

Re: Nursery school and Immunization Question

I doubt they're going to argue with you as long as you are showing you are getting her vaccinated.

A letter won't work (at least for public school) because NY does not allow for philosophical exemptions. It has to be either medical or based on your religion. Since you chose to vaccinate already (giving her other shots but not MMR), it's not really a religion exemption - unless you are a new believer in Christian Scientists or another religion.

Re: Nursery school and Immunization Question

I think they have a right to not admit her unless she's up to date on all of her shots. A letter probably won't help b/c she has received vaccinations. The exemption applies to those who do not vaccinate at all b/c of their beliefs. You can always see what they have to say though. Chat Icon

Re: Nursery school and Immunization Question

Well- the state requires her to have it... BUT have your Dr write a note...

In my school, I have put a written note by the DR stating that the child will receive by such and such a date and my licensor doesn't give me a hard time about it...

But technically.... they can deny her admittance..

Re: Nursery school and Immunization Question

I signed up DS for a nursery school program at a church by my house 2 days a week for 1 1/2 hours. They asked for his immunization record. DS has not gotten the MMR vaccine yet. I will be holding off until I see how he progresses with EI. I sent in the paperwork a couple of weeks ago and haven't heard anything (and hopefully I didnt just jinx myself Chat Icon ). I know it is required for admittance in the school district but not sure if the laws are the same for nursery school type settings.
