NYC covid numbers

We live in Queens so I am very concerned about the schools possible shutdown. I see they said the NYC 7 day average was 2.83% (as of yesterday) and if it hits 3% we are closed. My question is I cannot find this number anywhere. I looked on the forwardny regional dashboard (and looked at NYC). That shows the 7 day average as 2.4%. So clearly I am missing something. Does anyone know where I can find the metrics?

Not sure but i work for the DOE in queens and my principal had a zoom meeting with us yesterday. She said it's possible an announcement can be made this weekend but maybe we will be in on Monday. She didn't sound hopeful that we would make it to Friday. Also said once they call full remote, it's likely we won't return until Jan 2021

I know. Chat Icon All my teacher friends said the same thing. They were doubtful we would open on Monday with the mayor’s announcement yesterday to tell families to have backup childcare plans.Chat Icon.

Re: NYC covid numbers

I just don’t understand how Long Island is over 3 percent and there is no mention of shutting schools. Why the double standard?

Because this has nothing to do with Cuomo. Private schools in NYC will not be closing at 3%. DiBlasio made a deal with the teachers union back in July, and now he has to hold to it.
Yesterday in an interview, Cuomo said he would allow DiBlasio to close schools, however he thinks schools should be open, as the recent surge is not coming from schools. He also said he thinks the mayor and the union need to come up with a clear plan on reopening them, and that 3% is an arbitrary metric that perhaps should be tweaked.

i honestly think that's it's not even about a double standard. I just think because everyone/everything is closer together in the city, and the reality is that it will spread much quicker with the MTA busses, trains, subways, etc...Because Diblasio didn't close soon enough the first time, I think he's just being more cautious so he slows the spread the 2nd time around

This 100 %. Education is being held hostage by the formidable NYC teachers union. I am so glad I put my kids in private last minute. There have been zero cases at their school and they are happy and thriving. I feel for public school families right now, especially those with two parents working.

And we know Cuomo is conservative and careful. So for him to feel schools in nyc should remain open, really says something.

Exactly. But apparently Michael Mulgrew, the head of the teachers union, is a scientist now too. I get that he is there for the teachers, not the students and families. However, I know many DOE teachers. They all love being back in person and are devastated this may be happening again.

yeah, i'm a bit embarassed at all the fighting they've been doing. Mulgrew has been using drs and stuff to help him, but i feel like it makes us look bad when he makes a stink about everything. I do think the city should have different parameters for closing than LI and other areas though.

If he feels that way, then I think he should order deblasio instead of just urging him to reconsider, he can do that right?

I am sure he can. I would think the Governor outranks the Mayor but who knows?
These 2 always seem to be in a pissing match anyway.
