Nyc DOE Child care leave and health insurance
So I decided to take a leave until sept which was already approved. Our health insurance will be terminated as of next week and we were planning on going under DH insurance. His job is now telling me that because the DOE is offering COBRA, it is my choice to opt out of it and therefore we don't qualify for his insurance because technically it's not a loss of coverage on my part. Does this make sense to anyone? I know so many people who have taken a leave and went on their DH insurance and had no issues...I hate when i plan things in advance to be organized and then someone throws me a doozy at the last minute!!! Grrrr...
Advice? TIA

There's been a change of employment status that led to a change in your insurance eligibility. You're no longer eligible as an employee. Your husband's insurance has to recognize that status change and make insurance available to you. Even if theoretically you had kept your job, but your insurance premiums went up to the COBRA levels, that would have been a sufficient status change to require your husband's insurance to take you.

Thanks, that what I thought! I don't know why they are so dumb about these things...I mean, my husband has to pay a premium for his insurance whereas we didn't have to pay for ghi...they made it seem like I was doing something so wrong for taking a child care leave yesterday when I was on the phone with them! I don't even work for that company!! No wonder my husband would rather not deal with them unless absolutely necessary...stupidity!
