NYC doe teachers- summer pay question and maternity

I went on maternity leave the end of April. I took 7 weeks off (so I came off payroll for one week) and retuned to work June 10th. Today I went to get my summer checks and I had no check for June 31st even though I've been back since before the end of the last pay cycle. And no August checks. So I only got July 15th and 31st. Wth? My payroll secretary had no idea why and was no help.

Did anyone take a similar maternity leave? Someone told me that payroll closes in may and checks are already cut but considering I've worked all year I don't get why I wouldn't have August checks ad what about my June? Who can I call about this- hr connect? Will I be able to get paid or will I have to wait until September, which would be awful ugh

So weird! I just got a letter saying they stopped payment on my June 28th check as well as both my August checks ( I have direct deposit) but I'd be getting my July checks. I went out on May 6th. I emailed my payroll secretary but she hasn't gotten back to me yet. I called hr connect and the woman was very nasty and no help. She said that since my leave is over 6/30 after school is over they can't do anything until September and my payroll secretary will have to put me back on payroll so I might not get the first September check either!!!

Call HR Connect..there is one more payroll correction period coming up so hopefully you can catch it..with only 1 extra week out, you should not be penalized for an entire summer...

So weird! I just got a letter saying they stopped payment on my June 28th check as well as both my August checks ( I have direct deposit) but I'd be getting my July checks. I went out on May 6th. I emailed my payroll secretary but she hasn't gotten back to me yet. I called hr connect and the woman was very nasty and no help. She said that since my leave is over 6/30 after school is over they can't do anything until September and my payroll secretary will have to put me back on payroll so I might not get the first September check either!!!

How annoying! Did you go back to work? I went back to work figuring everything would be fine since ive been back argh im so annoyed and will call hr connect first thing in the morning

Did you have enough sick time or did you borrow days?

I went out may 2 and took rest of yr. i had sick days but then borrowed days so My sunmer checks shouldnt be affected... So I hope!

I borrowed days and was short only one week so it should not have affected 3 paychecks. When I had my first DS I did the exact same thing with the same amount of days and my summer pay wasn't affected at all.

Payroll closed in May - perhaps that's what the issue is.

I returned May 30 and will not receive my June pay until Sept/October

I've been on the phone all morning with hr connect and payroll.

Good luck to anyone that needs to call because I was on hold for 45 mins to hr connect, then they transferred me to payroll, then they transferred me back to hr connect (another 45 mins wait), who then transferred me to leave payroll, who told me that my payroll secretary never entered some id number in the system to show that I came back to work.

I called my payroll secretary who basically was no help and said shes done everything so she doesnt know.

So then I called my cfn and they said they'll find out whats going on.

I have a feeling your payroll secretary messed up. Summer checks are processed in May, so you should get your entire summer pay and then pay some back when you return in September. It sounds like she took you off payroll during your leave, and that shouldn't have happened until your 6 or 8 weeks was up. I had a similar leave when I had my DD in April 2011. I was out for 12 weeks and came back to 5 complete checks for the summer. There is someone at HR Connect named Edward who was the most helpful person in all my dealings with them. Good luck. I have yet to meet anyone whose pay wasn't messed up because of maternity leave.

I went out last year in April, took 8 weeks with 20 borrowed days then went absent without pay for 6 days and I got my summer pay. But, when I came back in September my payroll secretary was trying to withhold my check from me, I had to call HR connect to get someone to say no she can't just not give you your check... You would think they would have an easier understandable system!
