Re: NYC Marathon Training!
I am running the both the NYC half the marathon in the fall.
My training is as follows...
Sunday - rest
Monday - 50 minute run (speed work) and lower body strength training
Tuesday - 1 hour spin class and upper body strength
Wed. - 1 hour run (hilll run) and abs/core training
Thursday - 1 hour spin class and 1.5 hour yoga class
Friday - Rest
Saturday - Long run...I run with a team so I am not sure what I am up to this weekend. I have a base of about 13 so somewhere around there I believe
This is my schedule every week unless I travel, in that case I alternate the elliptical for spin (yuck) but it's gotta be done!

Re: NYC Marathon Training!
I have run with a charity in the past, but this year I am running with a team called Team USA...I am really enjoying this group and the organized runs!
I ran more when I trained for my last marathon but found my self dealing with a lot of injuries, this schedule is keeping me stronger and healthier. I thought I had to run more but as it turns out...they say 3 days a week is what you should do.
Good luck to you and happy running!!

Re: NYC Marathon Training!
I'm not doing NYC, but I like to use Hal Higdon whenever I'm training for something (right now, I'm in 10K mode)
He has great novice programs, if this is your first marathon.

Re: NYC Marathon Training!
Yes, I am using the NYC Marathon training schedule. As I get further into training. I might substitute a short run for a Bikram Yoga class or Biking but for now I am mostly running.
I think as long as you do the long runs on the weekend your okay.
Let me just say... it has been hot out. I try to run at night. Its too hard during the day.

Re: NYC Marathon Training!
How were your long runs this morning?
I did 12 miles at 7:30am...it got really hot fast down here in Atlanta but I had a decent run considering the heat, humidity and the 2 glasses of wine and very little food I had yesterday!
14 next week

Re: NYC Marathon Training!
Thanks for asking! I did 10. Of course I slept in and didn't start until 9. But it wasn't bad at all. I had a dull headache by the end of the day, but it could have been from those beers I had at the beach today.

Re: NYC Marathon Training!
I did 10.6 on saturday morning at 630am. i like it that early bc there are no cars out at that hour and some roads i am on are kindof busy.
I felt ok, had a stomach issue ('flat tire') around mile 8 and had to stop at a gas station. post-stop i felt better but then developed a cramp so walked for about half a mile. ****** me off, but finished strong up a 3/4 of a mile beast of a hill.
12 next saturday!

Re: NYC Marathon Training!
Okay...so how was everyones run this weekend?
As I have said I am still suffering with the congestion of a sinus/allergy issue. So Saturday I hiked up the Kennesaw mountain (needed an extra day before the big run) and today I ran 14 miles!
I got up way too late for the Atlanta heat, by the end of my run it was 91 degress. but I did it and had a pretty good run considering I'm not 100%!

Re: NYC Marathon Training!
wow good for you! thats great...considering your sickness and the Atlanta heat.
i was up at 6am saturday morning and ended up doing 11.5 - i misjudged the distance by 1/2 a mile (wanted to do 12). i felt good, it was my first time doing this particular route and it was quite challenging, lots of long gradual hills that just end up being killers. but felt great and energetic at the end and throughout the day. all in all - good work! i cant decide what breakfast i like better - WW toast with Pb and honey or banana with PB. neither gives me stomach problems but unsure which gives me more sustained energy? (and less stomach problems )
now its a quiet(ish) week leading up to the big half on sunday. will do 3-4 days of 4-5 miles each....

Re: NYC Marathon Training!
hey all,
I didn't get into the half Good luck this weekend- stay hydrated!!
I'm doing the nine NYRR races so I can do NYC full next year. I ran the 2007 Philly marathon last year so i wanted to take this summer off.
I'm thinking of doing the Great South Bay Run- half marathon in Bayshore in October. anyoneelse doing this?
Where do you guys do your long runs on LI? I'm on the south shore, so i'll prob use the path up to Bethpage State Park.
Also, where do you do your hill training?
Thanks!

I live in CT now and where I am there are lots of hills, so i just incorporate them that way. there is no way not to! grrr. but i guess its good.
I am from LI though and have heard that the path to bethpage is a great spot.

I am training down in Atlanta, and it is VERY VERY hilly...I have a hard time finding flat routes!

Re: NYC Marathon Training!
I usually do my long runs at Bethpage State Park. There is a lot of shade there.
Otherwise I will run at the beach. I also use map my run to run around the neighborhood.
