Re: NYC Marathon Training!

I had a travel wknd - ended up only doing 4 on saturday, 0 on sunday, but made up my 8 mile run yesterday morning.

took the day off (i was really 'sick') and took off early in the am. it was GORGEOUS. used my fuel belt for the first time.....gave me chafing on top of my butt. have to remember to bodyglide that area next time.

15 this wknd!

Re: NYC Marathon Training!

I ran 10. I am away and the florida heat was a little unbearable. There is no shade. I think I was still sweating 4 hours later. My short runs are easy this week. & my long run on saturday i might save until i get back to LI.

I agree the chaffing is the worst part of it. Every time i run it is in a different place. i should just body glide my entire body.Chat Icon

If i was really sick! haha.....i am fine, just didnt feel like going to work. lol.

oh the chafing!!! i thought i BG'd everywhere, but alas.....there are more places to do. i did under my boobs, collarbones and armpit(ish) area....not my back....oy that was painful when i got in the shower..

good job with 10 miles in the florida heat. i give you credit!

15 for me too!! Took me about 2:20 or so and started at 7am.
I am dealing with a sore hamstring and calf... but it could be that I did a 8 mile hike on Sunday in North Georgia which was a rough terrain that took almost 4 hours! Chat Icon Chat Icon

How did we do this past weekend? I heard NY had great weather!!! Down here in Atlanta it was disgusting, wet and humid...

I had a recovery week and did 13 miles. Not much to say about it except it was fine. My foot is still feeling sore, not terrible just a little sore so going to a podiatrist Friday to check it out.

Saturday is 18...I have been waiting for this one!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: NYC Marathon Training!

So how are my running buddies doing? How are you feeling and what's your mileage been like?

I have been keeping steady at 2, 6 mile runs during the week and 2 spin classes and strength/resistance training.

My long run Saturday was supposed to be 16-18 miles...but I got lost when I missed a turn...my running buddies were away for the weekend.... and I ended up at 19 miles...UGHHHH!!!!

I feel good though. Ran 5.5 junk miles Sunday to just loosen up. I am feeling much healthier than I did training for my last marathon in '06

Hope you all are doing well!

Re: NYC Marathon Training!

Sorry ive been MIA!

I have been doing ok - dont have anything to compare to though. I was supposed to do 16 on saturdya, but it ended up being 15.5 bc i took awrong turn as well, i wish it took me longer, but it took me shorter instead. at the end, i didnt feel very good - very achy and tired. i have terrible callouses - and they HURT really bad so they were bothering me around mile 11. i develop blood blisters underneath...not fun.

did 4 to loosen up on sunday and then did 5 yesterday and felt great.

only a couple more LONG runs before marathon day!

what is the most important thing you are incorporating into your diets? give me an actual food.....im trying to work on that.

Re: NYC Marathon Training!

As far as your question regarding diet...I just try to have protein and fiber in every meal....and eat as little refined sugar as possible. It's hard for me cause I tend to lean towards heavy carbs when I am so hungry all the time but if I want a carb I make myself eat some kind of protein with it.

I also can't get through the day with out a late afternoon snack anymore...so I am eating half a bar like Cliffs or Kashi as my AM snack and the other half as my PM snack to hold me over till dinner. It's been working and keeping me away from the sugar that I crave!

I'm not great with diet...but staples are yogurt and granola with Almonds, hummas and veggies with wheat pita, chicken with veggies or a potato or pasta, fish if I go out, scrambled eggs and turkey etc.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

What's your mileage for the weekend? I hope your blister/callus feels better....i know how bad those hurt!! Have you tried soaking it or maybe hit the podiatrist they might be able to do something.

I'm in Vegas this weekend so will be running 14 along the strip Friday AM!

Re: NYC Marathon Training!

enjoy vegas! that 14 miles will go by fast with all the sites to see along the way ;)

thanks for the food suggestions - i pretty much eat all that stuff regularly as it is, but i do think i overdo the carb thing and also def give into my sugar craving......yumm.

i am thinking of seeing a podiatrist and i keep telling my husband that i need to buy a foot bath and he just laughs at me!!!!!

i think i'm just wishing that one day i wake up with beautiful un-calloused feet ....

Doing the Norwalk 1/2 marathon this wknd! not as entertaining as vegas im sure... ;)

i ran 12 this weekend. I also ran the ocean to sound relay today. i am exhausted. Long runs are getting easier,
but i am just not into the short runs as much.

I just got new sneakers. Maybe that will motivate me.Chat Icon

Ran 13.5 along the Vegas strip Friday morning. I got out there early and it was a great run! The dry heat was AMAZING to run in, and it was completely flat...made a HUGE difference. I ran close to 14 miles in under 2 hours!

Well I'm back home and back to the weekly grind...6 miles tomorrow morning...blahhhh...I'm getting bored too!

Re: NYC Marathon Training!

I did a Half marathon in my town on saturday morning. It had been cancelled due to severe weather, but when i woke up it was perfectly fine (super humid and hot, but no 'severe' weather) so i just did it alone. glad i did....although it was lonely. then did 4 yesterday in the GORGEOUSNESS!

feel good and tired today - looking forward to my day off.

I think i may need to get new sneakers and go a 1/2 size up - that might make my callouses feel better....thoughts?

I think it depends on where the callouses are on your foot! Are your toes or bottom of foot the problem? How much larger than your dress shoe size are your sneakers?

Going up a half size in the last sneakers I just bought helped my toes...i had lost a nail due to a blood blister under the nail. The half size larger doesn't bang my toes as much.

I wear 7.5 in regular shoes as well as sneakers - so i was thinking of buying an 8 for sneaks.. the callouses are on the outsides of my big toes and that area below, that bone. Dr says i have bunions adn need surgery. but they dont look anything like bunion. just nasty callouses. the big toe callous gets blood blisters underneath. During long runs they actually feel likethey are burning. dumb feet!!!!!!!!!

YES YES YES...you should most definitely at the minimum be wearing a half a size larger than your shoe size. In my current sneakers I am wearing a ful size!

That area you are describing would definitely be affected by sneakers that are too tight. You may also need sneakers with a larger toe box. Some sneakers are made that way.

Feel better and get yourself some news sneakers girl!!! Chat Icon

Re: NYC Marathon Training!

Alright ladies....

20 miles on saturday and 3 miles yesterday. I am EXHAUSTED!

20 miles went well.....it was definitely tough - but i was with my father and a friend of mine so we stuck together and after every lap (Central [park) we re-grouped, took some gu and gatorade and then moved along. so it wasnt nonstop 20 miles. but i feel good having done it and hope to get at least one more in that distance.

3 miles yesterday felt a bit stiff, but loosened up after about 15 minutes or so.

hope everyone had a good running wknd!
