wow good for you! thats great...considering your sickness and the Atlanta heat.

i was up at 6am saturday morning and ended up doing 11.5 - i misjudged the distance by 1/2 a mile (wanted to do 12). i felt good, it was my first time doing this particular route and it was quite challenging, lots of long gradual hills that just end up being killers. but felt great and energetic at the end and throughout the day. all in all - good work! i cant decide what breakfast i like better - WW toast with Pb and honey or banana with PB. neither gives me stomach problems but unsure which gives me more sustained energy? (and less stomach problems Chat Icon )

now its a quiet(ish) week leading up to the big half on sunday. will do 3-4 days of 4-5 miles each....

Great Job! Both of youChat Icon Chat Icon It was a hot one this weekend! I ran 12 on Saturday around 9 am... way to late.
But I just couldn't get up from the Billy Joel Concert.

you went AND got up the next morning? I sent my husband to the concert alone with 2 other couples....our saturday was jammed - After i did my run we had to drive to shelter island for a party and we live in CT now so it wasnt to easy (and we werent staying over)......the concert i heard was AMAZING!

the concert was amazing! it got me through my long run. i was tired though. we had a long weekend. we packed up and went to south hampton for our 5 year anniversary.Chat Icon

For all in training - when i moved to CT i was not aware of my surroundings/neighborhood so i used www.mapmyrun.com and its been AWESOME! so easy to use and very accurate mapping system.

Re: NYC Marathon Training!

I'll hopefully be running it, if all goes well.

I basically run about 5 miles per day for 3 days (betw Mon and Thurs).

Fri or Sat I'll do a long run. So far 10 miles has been my longest.

Sun I do an easy 5 miles.

I've been running mostly in the mornings at 6:30 AM. This time of year, around these parts (NYC), that is really the coolest time of the day. Even running in the evening, when the sun has gone down, the streets are still pretty hot. Plus I like running in the morning b/c it frees up my whole afternoon and evening.

Re: NYC Marathon Training!

Hows everyone doing here?

I am not alone in having done the NYC half marathon this past sunday - it was a humid and hilly race but I finished with a 2 hr 10 min time. not my best half, (actually it was my worst of 3 half's that ive done) but what can you do. how'd everyone else who did it finish?

that got me to 25 miles last week....

As I posted I ran the half in just under 2 hours....I was happy! I pushed a little harder than I should have so I am a little sore. My nutrition and hydration were perfect though...so I am on my way once again.

What is everyone running this weekend? My schedule says 12....

I'm figuring out my hydration and nutrition...think i have the food part down pat, but the drinking is where i have to play around.

I have 8 on my sked for saturday and 4 for sunday.....going to do the NYRR training run sat morning and probably up it to 10 and do something else on sunday. biking or walking or something.

Re: NYC Marathon Training!

Did the NYRR training run on saturday morning - 11 miles. supposed to do 8 sat and 4 sunday, but did 11 saturday instead. felt great, stuck with a slow pace group and in turn felt like i could have done another lap in the park if i wanted to. either that or im getting my food/hydration plan in order....

how was everyone elses training wknd?

My plan was to do 12, but ended up at 12.5. It was tough, 78 degrees and over 80% humidity at 7am...it's getting really rough here temp. wise and the hills...have I mentioned the hills Chat Icon

Anyway, I didn't feel great, had to push pretty hard to get through it...hopefully next week will feel a little better.

What are we running next week???

I have 8 & 4 again for this coming wknd - and will probably stick to that. and 16 divided up throughout the week.

stay cool and hydrated in that altanta heat! Have to say that gatorade G2 is really good for post-run. i get fewer headaches and more energized.

Thanks for the advice...I will try that!

On the plan you are following you divide up your long runs? Sounds like a great idea, I never did that. Do you do that every weekend?

ugh i just wrote this whole thing and i 'backed' and lost it. dope.

anyways - no i dont divide them up. I combined what was supposed to be my long run (8) with my short run (4) and did 11. mostly bc i wanted to make the most of the organized training run in central park.

but i wouldnt divide them up because that defeats the purpose of us training our bodies to be 'out there' for 2-3+ hours right? what do you think?

thanks for the encouragement azoodie! keep it up!

OH! duh. i just read what you meant by 'dividing' them up. i meant i am doing 16 throughout the week - 4, 3, 4 & 5.

Re: NYC Marathon Training!

I did 13 for my long run. The first 8 miles were okay. The
last 5 were rough. My ipod died at mile 1. I had a power gel with caffeine and water throughout. and then a gatorade.

Does anyone "place" drinks throughout their routes? I have
found this very helpful... especially since I run later in the day. It is hard to schedule runs, especially since I have 2 toddlers and my DH is running.

I give you a lot of credit! I find it hard and its just me and my husband in our house and he isnt running. but one of my best friends is also training and she has two young children as well. I think your great for doing it!

as for planting drinks throughout - i have not but i def have thought about it. I just bought a fuel belt so i might try that first.

Got it...i misunderstood the dividing up part!

As for planting drinks...you probably will need to as the mileage increases. I run with a team for my long runs, so they have water stops for us.

If i am on my own I use a power belt and plan my run so that I pass a place midway through to refill my water/gatorade.

I also eat 100 calories ever hour...it has worked great. (I use shot bloks...can't do the gels.)

Re: NYC Marathon Training!

sorry if the splitting up was confusing. dh runs first and then i run when he gets back.

i should buy a case of gels online. instead i run around like a crazy person tryng to find one the night before.

have not tried the shot blok. i will have to try that.

Tonight was a good run. I ran 4.

Re: NYC Marathon Training!

ugh...sidelined yesterday and im feeling today as well due to menstrual migraines. really wonderful to wake up with 2 days in a row....

only thing that is telling me to go ahead and work out is the fact that this cant get any worse.

also really great that there is no 'known' medication to relieve menstrual migraines other than going off the pill. and I cant do that bc of other reasons.

should i push through or will 2 days off not really make a difference?

hope you feel better. i had to take off until Friday. My DH dropped a glass and never cleaned up all the glass and I got a couple of piece stuck in my foot. I had to get it removed
at the dr.'s yesterday. Of course running on it for several days just made it deeper.

I am so bummed.Chat Icon

Re: NYC Marathon Training!

I am trainning for a half marathon and I must say that the first couple of miles are the hardest for me, but once I get into the right pace and I push myself I can keep going. It is tough with the heat. I like to run at night are 7 or 8 pm when its around 80 degrees.

YIKES...glass in the foot...hope you are feeling better soon!!

I would take the two days off for the migraine....maybe take a nice walk...but really don't push it. I have found that Naproxin (Aleve) works on those headaches. Also, a cup of coffee has really eased them for me too.

Feel better. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: NYC Marathon Training!

How did we do this past weekend ladies?

I did 12 miles Saturday morning. It was a gorgeous morning down in Atlanta. 67 degrees and a very low humidity...perfect conditions!

The 12 went well...I just have an aching arch in my left foot. I think I may go to a podiatrist...just to make sure it's nothing serious.

The same day I also did a 3 hour hike up the Kennesaw mountain....I was tired but really wanted to keep my BF company. So off I went and...

So I am still a little tired from that big day of activity. Hit the mill this AM...too tired to run the hills around my condo. I was dragging and stopped periodically. I ran 6 miles at a 7.0-7.5 and after did my lower body conditioning. I'm ready for bed! Chat Icon

Re: NYC Marathon Training!

I ran 7 miles. I just got a new polar heart rate monitor that tells you speed and distance and I love it. I really pushed me to speed up the last 2 1/2 miles. I was going to run 10 miles but decieded that I do not want any injuries so I will pace myself. My legs were a bit sore after words.
