NYC schools closed tomorrow
Just saw it on TV. Mayor Bloomberg's office just announced schools will be closed tomorrow.

Smart thinking.
Maybe the mayor should close all of NYC, not just the schools.
I'm already planning on working from home tomorrow. Easy commute to the dining room table where I can spread out my stuff.

I think one of the reasons is that parents can make other arrangements for their children if they have to work tomorrow. Last year when they shut down for snow they made the announcement in the morning and parents were stuck.

Agreed. Last time even the meteorologists were not sure how much each area would get. Now the storm predictions are much more specific, and in agreement, and I am sure it will be more accurate.
And you know what? So what if it doesn't snow. Better safe than sorry IMO

Yea..I think this is the smart thing to do since a lot of parent will still have to work. They have time to make arrangements. I say this is definately a SMART MOVE!

Ok I can see that- it makes sense- but I would just hate for nothing and the kids to miss out on that day- thats all I was thinking

yeah but see, if you had a school aged kid... you'd see this as a positive. I never have a problem b/c I work for a university, so when his school is closed then mine is DEFINITELY closed and I don't have to work... but for other parents, its not as easy to find childcare.

And if I recall correctly, they haven't used many, if any, snow days this school year. So they can afford to close schools and be wrong, rather than wait-and-see. I believe they're alotted a certain # of days each year.

This announcement is a lot better than last year. DH was already up and dressed, car started when I signed onto LIF and saw the news. NONE of the tvs were reporting them closed.  Good ole LIF.
