Sorry thats ridiculous- why would they cancel it before it actually snows- what if nothing happens like this weekend.
At this point it isn't a question of will it snow as much as how much will we get.
Why make teachers go through a hellish commute in and our of the city?
oh because I'm bitter that I have to go no matter what
Hells no, already told me job I'm working from home tomorrow
Now part of me hopes the power goes out so I can't work

because the last storm was a prediction. I'm thinking this storm is more of a sure thing.
Agreed. This storm is a lot more predictable than the last one (which was a compact, smaller system where a small change of course could mean the difference between no snow and 2' of snow).
Also, since NYC schools almost NEVER close, I think it's better to give the announcement ahead of time so working parents have time to make child care arrangements (or take off from work) if necessary.

I was actually in the camp of "it's too early to close the schools" - but the point about parents now having the time to make childcare arrangements for tomorrow makes alot of sense.

Smart thinking. Maybe the mayor should close all of NYC, not just the schools.
I'm already planning on working from home tomorrow. Easy commute to the dining room table where I can spread out my stuff.
We never get off for snow
