All I can say is WOW. Totally unprofessional by the *rookie* cop.
These people need to realize that we now live in a technology world and video is so easy to take/obtain/post.
And the worst part of it all, the cop LIED to the court as to what happened (described in the article).
Unbelieveable, cop should be fired.

Based on the name, age and knowing that his father was NYPD/FBI I believe this officer is a former student of mine.  I just can't believe if it was him that he would do something like this.

The report the officer made is an utter 180 of what the video shower. i mean the bicyclist wasn't aiming at the officer at all, yet he claimed he went "straight" for him. 
so sad that this young rookie cop just ruined his career. all rookies are on probation right out of the academy until their first year is up on the streets.....they can be fired for anything. more than likely this guy is done.

I so agree! I am so happy that it was all caught on video because if it did not it would have been the Cop word against the cyclist. Such a Moron.

This is SO disturbing on so many levels. The cyclist is actually trying to avoid the cop. There is no doubt the cop pushed him. I cannot imagine how much it must have hurt to be pushed out of his bike on the pavement. It is pure assault.

The critical mass rides may not be perfect...they break too many traffic laws to really be respected, but their confrontational method is necessary in a city that not only doesn't support biking as a clean alternative to cars- They clearly show hostility to any change.
I was reading Paris spent millions to create bike lanes and have a citywide bike rental program, totally sucessful and has in a single year sparked huge change.

The cop claimed Long deliberately drove his bike into him, sending both of them falling to the ground. Pogan claimed to have suffered cuts from the impact.
Oh yeah, thats what I saw.
I hope they take his badge.

This cop is an idiot. Did he really think out of all those people, no one was filming what was going on - and besidees that, there were hundreds of witnesses who saw what he did. What he did is disgusting, he should be fired and arrested for assault.

Okay, I only looked at the video and did not read the article - YET.
I have to say (and perhaps I'm in the minority here) -- but I completely saw something different than what is claimed in the posts.
I saw this:
The officer headings towards the sidewalk, trying to move out of the way (slower moving than anticipated) and the cyclist avoiding, and they crashed.
Did not look like an assault to me...

Really? He checked him off the bike. the dude on the bike was trying to go around the cop when he (cop) was coming towards him, then he (cop) checked him off the bike. At least this is what I saw.

Really? He checked him off the bike. the dude on the bike was trying to go around the cop when he (cop) was coming towards him, then he (cop) checked him off the bike. At least this is what I saw.
I saw the cyclist steer to the left of the cops and then the cop in question walk and then practically jog to the cyclist and push him off the bike.

i was just going to say this... he even put his shoulder down and "checked" him off of his bike, like in a hockey game. it was clear as day (IMO).
