NYPD officers or wives...
Are NYPD cops (dads) entitled to FMLA leave after their babies are born? My DH is going to take vacation days, but I wonder if he gets paternity leave for a few weeks that would allow him to not have to take vacation days. Any info would be great! TIA!

Can only have off is they use their own time unless they take a leave of absence without pay. But in that case they would have to use all their time up first.

I have to ask DH how he did this when I had DS. He took off the whole week. I have a feeling he used his own time though.

Yeah, I found something on the PBA website about this. They can get 12 weeks, but it is unpaid. No good for us! It looks like he might just take 2 weeks vacation around the time of the birth.

I have DH looking into it. I don't think its fair if a women on the job gets maternity leave and the men to get nothing.

Um. Well, wouldn't that apply to every job then? Not just city jobs?

I think it should. They shouldn't get off as long as us women, but they should be some paid time off to stay home and help there wives. Just my opinion.

My DH said that when the baby is born, they will give him that week vacation, even if it wasn't his vacation pick. But he has to use his vacation time for it. We never looked into FMLA for him.

They are entitled to FMLA unpaid just like everyone else and a female PO gets the same as everyone else 6 weeks vag 8weeks csection-paid, if your DH wants to take off it has to be his time if you want to get paid..

I don't even get paid time off. Just FMLA.
