Disgusted but not surprised.
Hopefully they do it again and run across equally morally corrupt family members of the victim.

See I don't know though... Like everyone else I was absolutely DISGUSTED when news of this event broke. It was so disturbing, and GOD KNOWS I had my share of those "too much to drink" evenings when I literally stumbled home out of a cab, kwim?

But part of me wonders if we're getting the real story in the media; i.e. if a jury acquitted them there HAD to be something that didn't add up right?

Not to say I think they're Prince Charmings, not at all, but what was the deciding factor in the acquittal???

ITA. We were NOT part of the jury.. they know more than us!

ITA but regardless of this they took advantage of a very obviously intoxicated woman. As law enforcement they should have known better...still disgusts me.
Where were her friends she was out with? No way I would let one of my girls go home by themselves if they were that drunk...

I understand that we weren't there.
But I also don't think every jury has gotten it right.

"too much to drink"

I believe this is it right here.
She just wasn't coherent enough to really remember how it all went down.
Which sucks...since I do believe she was raped.
Only going by what I heard and seen reported.

ETS: I was always under the impression that having sex with someone in the condition she was in, was considered rape? And if it's not, it probably should be. If she's passing out, she's obviously in no shape to consent to it.

ITA
This is sick and frustrating that they got off.. I mean how are rape victims supposed to feel now.. Oh if you're raped while youre drunk and they have a condom.. don't report it.. nothing will happen anyway.

I truly hope they lose everything - job, wife, etc.

Do they stand a chance of getting their job back?

Just based on what they've admitted while on the job:
-the fake 911 call one officer did
-sleeping on the job
-laying in a woman's bed

I wouldn't think so.

You are correct. Having sex with someone who is incapable of consenting (drunk, mentally ill, physically/mentally disabled) IS rape.

Re: NYPD "Rape Cops" cleared of all felony charges;...

At the very least they should lose their jobs, penision, benefits etc. The city should cut them free with NOTHING.

Do I think she was raped? Yes. But I also think that the jurors felt she was drunk, may have consented, saw her as a tramp/**** etc. and therefore could not beyond a reasonable doubt convict him of it. Do I think that is wrong? Yes but I am willing to bet that is why he was not convicted. As PP have pointed out drunk women are viewed a certain way it is a REALITY Chat Icon

I worked with them, in the 9th pct. I'm still there. There is almost 100% guarantee that they will lose their jobs, and Moreno would've been eligible to retire last month after 20 years. If he loses his job, which I'm sure he will, he will lose all his pension, which is basically one of the reasons we take this job, the benefits. I have my own thoughts on what I believed happened. I always said all you have to do is prove there was sex involved. How can you "prove" that? With no dna, no witnesses? If there was any reason to believe there was sex, that you do have rape, because an intoxicated person cannot consent. Unfortunately sex was not proven. Just because he said it while wiretapped, it was justified as him trying to get her to "not make a scene". I definitely know everything was inappropriate, and because I've known him since the 10 years I've been there, I kinda know his personality. Does it shock me he took advantage of the situation? No. I'm very surprised he was acquitted. But like i said, couldn't prove sex occured

I had a feeling this was going to happen, the jury was taking a long time to deliberate.

While I think the one guy is a complete azzhole and the stupid partner "went along for the ride" and looked the other way, I was not completely convinced, based solely on what was in the news, that rape occurred, it's hard to decide.

But definitely a scumbag.

I agree with this as well!

Cops have gotten fired for a lot less.
They will most definitely lose their jobs and pensions.
Azzholes- they just ruined their lives as well as someone else's.
Even though they were acquitted of the rape charges, they will pay.
They get what they deserve.

So what now? Cop + no DNA + drunk woman = no rape?

This is so sickening how they got away with it.

It's REALLY going to restore faith with the Police in the City.

It really sets a bad precedent that cops can get away with everything!

I am so disgusted.

The NYPD fired two Manhattan cops Thursday just hours after they were acquitted of raping a helpless East Village woman.

Officers Kenneth Moreno and Franklin Mata were given the boot because the jury convicted them of official misconduct for going back to the woman's apartment three times without telling their superiors.

Well the Post is saying the cops are fired so at least there was that justice.

I agree that it is very hard to prove that there was sex in this case even though I beleive they did it.

I still can't believe the pure stupidity here.
That one cop had almost 20 years- he was THIS close to getting his pension.
And he throws it all away.
All those years of work- for what?
What a loser....

well, I will say that it looks like the jury took it serious, analyzing the evidence they had - 6+ days is a long time! (although the longer deliberation, the more likely an acquittal, I believe)

I am happy that Bloomberg/Kelly made the right decision! At least there was some kind of consequence.
