NYS property tax relief check
I know there was another thread about this a few weeks ago but I don't see it now.
So today we got the letter that says we need to register with our property key to apply for this money. My first thought was to double and triple make sure this wasn't a scam but it looks legit.
When we tried to apply however it wouldn't let me go past the first page because you have to put in the day you bought the property and it says I bought it "more than 3 years ago" (which we did). However nowhere else on the website does it say that this is only for new homeowners that bought within the past 3 years.
Does anyone know anything more about this? Has anyone received a check? TIA.

Yes, DH was literally just doing this 5 minutes ago. It's just a "warning,"it will let you go ahead. He was confused, too.

What does the letter look like? I hope I didn't throw it out. Though everyone I have talked still hasn't gotten the checks yet!!

We received a letter yesterday too. I completed the registration last night. I also received that warning about buying three years ago. I went past it and was able to complete the registration.

Did everyone who received the letter buy before 2015 when the new star check process was implemented?
Just curious because we bought in 2015 and we get our Star Rebate yearly in the form of a check vs. the people who bought before 2015 and get it deducted monthly from their mortgage.

I do call them every few weeks or so for an update.
My check was cut yesterday.

it is supposed to be for people who bought in 2015 or later. That's when the new tax law started.
Look at you tax bill. If you get STAR on your tax bill, you will not get a check

Look at you tax bill. If you get STAR on your tax bill, you will not get a check
They're not talking about the STAR checks. This is the Property Tax Relief check which is separate.
To be eligible, you must:
- live in a school district that is complying with the New York State property tax cap (see School district compliance to learn if yours did),
- receive either the Basic or Enhanced STAR exemption or credit,
- have an income of $275,000 or less, and
have paid school property taxes in 2017.

I called Albany and it IS based on 2015 income. The more you make, the less you get. If you made more than $275K you get nothing. There is a chart of amounts on the nytax.gov website.
