Michele just gave him cheek...the secret service would have had to pry my tongue from his mouth
That's why you weren't invited! Michele would have been pi$$ed if you did that!
I'm so happy to have a leader who can speak well, and sound like he knows what he is doing.

Re: Obama is officially President
I think he gave an incredible speech, and is impressively articulate and intelligent. But I'm also a severe realist, and I don't think any president can turn this country around in 4 years. I'm hopeful that he will bring some integrity to the office that is much needed, and will start the ball rolling, but I'm not putting all my faith in this one man to change the world.

I agree.
The damage done is going to take a lot longer than 4 or even 8 years to fix, but HOPEFULLY he will get the ball rolling...

I agree. I feel like a lot of people are expecting a lot of "change" fast and it's just not possible. I wish him the best of luck.

Re: Obama is officially President
It is exciting - I am more excited for the end of the inauguration coverage - it was getting a little much. I think people should get this excited for every president, whether you voted for him or not - this person is your leader for the next 4 years - you have to wish him well.

Anyone else think he looks a little bored? Like he just wants to get it all done and get going? He seems very humble and doesn't want all this fuss.

Re: Obama is officially President
while I do think this is a historic day for the county, and I do see and feel the hope of America and the world because of this day, I do have some apprehensive feelings about it as well. I think people are hanging a lot on this man, maybe too much. Yes, we hope he will bring change from what we had the last 8 years, and he can move this country foreward. But, it seems a lot of people are already treating him as the savior of the country, when he has not done anything yet. Let's see what happens. We all know, they all talk a great game, and he is a very charismatic (sp) talker. I am in his corner, and would love to see him implement the policies and changes he was talking about during the campaign, but I do not have blinders on either. I do not see him as a savior, but I do see a good man, who can do good things, but yet in the end, he is only a man. I pray that all the people that are hanging their dreams on this man, get the results they are hoping for. _________________

ITA! I hope these 4 years will be a good start to positive work and an increase in integrity. This is a hard job, especially since we are starting out in such a hole. But hopefuly he can slowly bring us back up, and if he is worthy- to have 8 years to accomplish his goals.

ITA he has alot to fix and he probably does not know where to really start but his main concern is the economy. He already said numerous time it will take years to fix what the Bush administration did the last 8 years. I have faith that he can get us through this tough time and I hope people don't think it is an over night fix.

i cant wait to give him the same respect as those have given to bush
Awwww!! Dont be upset because we are in a worse state then 8 years ago, and Bush could not GAIN respect in that time. Try giving Obama 8 years, or even 4 then decide who should be respected.

ITA. While I am not a huge fan of his, I am hopeful that he can get us out of the rut we are in now. He has a lot of great ideas, and I hope he can put them into action. If he can fix at least a few of our problems, he will have my respect!

Re: Obama is officially President
I appreciate the historic impact and although I did not vote for him I remain optimistic. I am concerned, however, that he has been so elevated and so exalted that at his first error one of two things will happen either (a) he will be raked through the coals or (b) the error will be completely overlooked and his infallibility will continue. Either situation would be unfair.
I continue to hope for the best but have no expectations. He will have some successes and some failures. I do not expect him to fix the economy because I (as well as anyone else who has ever taken any advanced macroeconomics courses) do not think a president can either single handedly put us in a worldwide recession or take us out.

Re: Obama is officially President
I'm just ecstatic that the US can be a participating member of the world community again. I don't know anyone who's pinning their hopes on 'the man' so much as his ideas and ideals, as compared to his predecessor. While I have a deep respect for the Office, I am left with no respect for "W" as a man... He was alternately a bully or a dolt, and I wish him a long quiet retirement in Crawford. Good riddance.

I am excited for Obama and a fresh start, however, I found it disrespectful that people were booing Bush as his motorcade was driving by. I don't think that he was the best president, but on this day of "optimism" and "hope" it was a little disrespectful. Just don't cheer.

I agree.
I HATE boo-ers. HATE HATE HATE them.
I will say though that the political discussion and issues COULD have waited until tomorrow....it take shine of a day that (like it or not, happy or not) is truly historic.
I am happy that in Obama's speech he didn't say HE would fix/change ANYTHING...but that WE, as a GALVANIZED country, would make the hard decisions, stop being lazy, get out there and do it for ourselves and for our children, and children's children.

I don't expect a miracle, by any means, but I do believe that he will have a positive effect on our country. I'm also realisitic, and think it will take a very long time for Obama as well as others, to fix the mess that he's been left with.
