Octuplet lady speaks... irony alert...
She always wanted a large family to make up for the isolation of being an only child - in a (get this) dysfunctional family. She's returning to school in September for a Master's degree in (get this) COUNSELING. She said that her childhood left her feeling a lack of "self and identity". "I didn't feel as though, when I was a child, I had much control of my environment. I felt powerless. Her mother says: “She’s a very likable person,” Angela Suleman said on Wednesday. “She’s basically normal except for this obsession she’s always had with children.” According to public documents released to the Associated Press yesterday, Ms Suleman suffered depression after she was injured in a riot in 1999 at the state mental hospital where she worked.
The documents also revealed that she collected more than $165,000 in disability payments between 2002-2008 for an injury which she claimed had left her in constant pain and helped to ruin her marriage.

This lady just sounds crazy. I hope her constant pain that resulted in her being on disability doesn't affect her ability to care for 14 children!
I really hope for the best for these kids.
And on a side note, I think I"m going to make it a point now to have more than one child. I don't want them to 'lack identity' and feel 'isolated' like her.

I'm sure she will end up getting gov't assistance (tax payer money)
So selfish!
I already feel bad for those kids

Re: Octuplet lady speaks... irony alert...
Well, I'm an only child and I know the feeling of wanting "many" children to compensate for that, but in no way would I ever have more than three. Actually, DH has put his foot down on two with a third only likely under the event of unplanned occurrences.

I thought the same thing. I am healthy with a DH and caring for 1 child and I find it physically stressful at times. I can't imagine being alone, sick and having 14!

why don't you wait until her first welfare check arrives in the mail before assuming she will be, and then maligning her for it.
i dont understand how we can justify disparaging someone for something that hasn't happened yet...and possibly never will

interesting that she weas in "constant pain" and couldn't work AT ALL from 2002-2008 -- yet was able to pop out all those 6 kids.
disgusting

She already has used the system for her disability
working with a spine surgeon, we treated more than one psychiatric nurse injured by patients on the job.
it is a very physical one, and there is a very real possibility of sustaining a long term debilitating injury.
I understand that you are making a prediction, but then to call her selfish on top of that is just strange to me.
but who knows...I am miss sensitive lately

I understand the injury may be real
I'm just saying that if you only have X amount of money, and spread that over 14 kids, you can't possibly take care of that many kids PROPERLY....
Her wanting kids >>>> properly planning to take care of 14 kids is selfish IMO

Re: Octuplet lady speaks... irony alert...
Ok might get flamed for this one BUT if she was so injured she should have been focusing on her rehabilitation not popping out kids. Being pregnant puts a lot of strain on the body. Plus she was going through fertility treatments to get pregnant each time. That puts even more stress in the body. I think she is disgraceful (JMO). Some honest hard working people are working two or three jobs to scrape up the tens of thousands of dollars it takes to have 1 treatment. She took advantage of the infertility treatments. Shame on her and the doctor who helped her. I fell much better now.

She doesn't work what makes you think she can afford these 14 kids?
Hell I bet the state of CA is paying for the care of this last batch, I consider that the same as on welfare.
Open your eyes and think about how much it costs to care for 14 kids a year and then compare that to her income

Wonder what carrying a litter of 8 does to one's spine
If it was such a long term disability she would have gotten more than 100k for her injury

What I want to know (after reading the whole article) is why did she use a friends sperm when she was married? And why didn't her DH have a problem with that. It said that all her babies were born via IVF because she had had 3 miscarriages/ectopics.

of course it's puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the spine.
and a litter? a batch? regardless of what you think of this woman, these are still children we are talking about here.
you keep making reference to her being mentally ill, yet you are dripping with disdain...so is it that you don't believe she is TRULY "crazy" or you think that her kind of "crazy" is not something you should have compassion for?
there is a good chance she IS mentally ill, which makes all these comments about her ridiculous. she needs HELP, and more importantly, the INNOCENT CHILDREN she brought into this world do as well.
I don't get why such precious energy is wasted on being negative towards this woman. I just don't see the societal benefit, one way or the other.

Re: Octuplet lady speaks... irony alert...
Not for nothing if she is going to be on public assistance than I rather it be her than half of the other people who are on it abusing the system. Atleast she sounds like she has goals and is going to get her masters. I do think having all these children is more of an emotional and mental issue than just wanting to expand the family. I hope they are well taken care of, but I dont think she shouldve had all these kids.

Re: Octuplet lady speaks... irony alert...
She's NOT mentally imho, she's the WORST kind of "mother" because these kids were brought into this world with a JOB - and THAT is my biggest pet peeve of all time. =============== Yolanda Garcia, 49, of Whittier, said she helped care for Nadya Suleman's autistic son three years ago.
"From what I could tell back then, she was pretty happy with herself, saying she liked having kids and she wanted 12 kids in all," Garcia told the Long Beach Press-Telegram.
"She told me that all of her kids were through in vitro, and I said 'Gosh, how can you afford that and go to school at the same time?'" she added. "And she said it's because she got paid for it." ================== This WHOLE STORY stinks to high heaven and more will be revealed I am sure. This woman is a sick b*tch.

Re: Octuplet lady speaks... irony alert...
Honestly, the person who disgusts me in this case is her doctor.
What kind of doctor would allow something like this to happen??
I don't know much about REs and infertility and IVFs, etc. but I would there's a limit on how many viable pregnancies a woman can carry in a healthy way...

There is and he's violated medical and ethical standards. So far there's been no word from the doc publicly but i think a few media outlets are working on that.
