Re: Official JANUARY 2013 Mommy to be Thread!

I had an appointment with a OB in the Gottlieb women's group for a regular check up...but I cancelled to go with my own doctor. Now that I actually got my BFP I am torn over where I want to go. I love my doctor....but not sure if LIJ is a better hospital over south nassau.

what are you ladies feeling?

When is everyone's first appt? I am waiting on a call back from my doc to schedule. I'll likely be seen over the next 2 weeks due to issues with my last pregnancy.

Except for abit of weight again around the tummy I haven't had any symptoms yet. I'm 5.5 weeks today and just had my first blood test to detect the HCG level. My OB wants 2 blood tests done to make sure the levels are progressing normally 'cus I had a miscarriage last time.

My first ultrasound will be at 6.5 weeks.

Good to see more ladies joined!

Does she know you're preggo yet? Does she want a brother or sister?

I asked my 3.5yo what he wants, a brother or sister. This week he wants a brother. That might change next week ...

Re: Official JANUARY 2013 Mommy to be Thread!

When did you all call to schedule your first appointment? I don't officially miss my period for another 2 days...so since I haven't missed it...I feel like it's too early to call to schedule. Maybe I'm wrong though.

I know my current OB won't see you until you miss 2 periods...I don't know about the new OB I am considering changing to. I feel like 2 missed periods is sooooooooooo far away!!

Re: Official JANUARY 2013 Mommy to be Thread!

I called at about 5 weeks. If your OB is popular it's better to call earlier so you get a choice in day/time that's convenient for you and DH, if he wants to come along.

Unless you have history of miscarriages or high risk pregnancies, you'll likely be asked to come in at the 8 week mark.

During the first exam you may get an ultrasound and get to hear the heartbeat.

Yea I know that 8 weeks is the norm. I had a chemical last year...but that doesn't qualify as a history for miscarriage....just qualifies me for being nervous! lol.

I will call once I officially miss my period. It's hard because DH doesn't want to tell our family until that first appointment. Which is sooooooo hard because I tell my mom everything!!!!! This is going to be a long few weeks!! Hopefully it goes fast..or I can get in at 7 weeks. lol

This doesn't seem standard in a lot of places. So what makes a dr wanna do early blood work? This would calm my nerves.

When did you all call to schedule your first appointment?

I got my BFP on a Saturday and called on Monday to make my appointment- I was 3 weeks then. Dr. won't see me till 8 weeks, but still made my appointment and spoke to the nurse about what I should/shouldn't be doing.

Friday is finally 8 weeks! Can't wait to see my LO!!

I'd still call now to make you appointment.

I agree. I found out on a Saturday at about 4 weeks. I called my OB Monday morning and they scheduled me for an appointment at 8 weeks. I would still call today to set up an appointment this way you can have the best day/time you want since it's pretty early.

I'm also a 2011 Bride! I was married in April 2011. I was on LIW at the beginning of my engagement for research; but then stopped posting about 6-8 months before I got married.

Bloodwork is typically not standard unless there's a real need for it.

This is also my 2nd baby and the doctor has asked me to come in for bloodwork too 'cus I had a miscarriage earlier this year..

I also went in early to see my OB when I had my first just to confirm the date 'cus I wasn't sure. If you really want to get peace of mind, tell them you're not sure of the date and they may let you come in earlier.

I think many docs just don't want to see patients b4 8 weeks because there's still that chance of a miscarriage before a heartbeat can be heard and there's not much that can be done except give you advice about what you can and can't eat or do while pregnant.

bloodwork is not standard but we had some complications at the end of my last pregnancy which make this one very risky. I'll likely be highrisk so that want to start monitoring levels now Chat Icon

Re: Official JANUARY 2013 Mommy to be Thread!

When do you all plan on telling your immediate families (like parents...siblings..etc?) Did you tell right when you got your BFP..or are you waiting?

DH doesn't want to tell them until our first appointment in 3 weeks. It is so hard keeping this from my mom who I am very close with.

This is really going to be the longest 3 weeks ever!!!!

Told my parents & his parents along with our closest friends (4 people) w/BFP.

We'll wait until the 8+ weeks to tell others.

Thanks for the push in calling for the appointment ladies!!

I called today and got an appointment for 3 weeks! I am going with a new doctor affiliated with LIJ, and they will see me sooner than my old doctor would. They see you between 6 and 8 weeks. I will probably be around 6 1/2 weeks by appointment time.

She doesn't know yet, but we always ask her if she wants a brother or sister and her answer is always the same "both" Chat Icon. We'll most likely tell her when I'm about 12 weeks.
