Re: OFFICIAL WW 2013 THREAD

Q about WW online.. how does it work when you reach your goal? Do you still get to use the app for free or does that only work if you attend meetings? I was a meetings member a few months ago and cancelled my membership, tried to go it alone by counting calories but didn't have as much success.. now i am going to re-join but online since I never used to stay for the meetings anyway.. so just wanted to know how it worked... thanks! :)

OFFICIAL WW 2013 THREAD

When you reach goal (and possibly stay there for a certain amount of time, I forget), then you are a lifetime member. Then you get the online and meetings for free, as long as you are w/in 2 lbs of your goal weight.

Hi ladies! I am very excited to join WW tomorrow. Which is better, the weekly meetings, or the online 360 program? I have a center by my house, so going for a weigh in wont be a problem. Im eager to know what is the first visit like! I'm a WW newbie, so any and all information is helpful! You all have done so well so far, I hope to have the same results!!

I guess it depends on whether or not you need the weekly weigh ins to hold you accountable and keep you in check... if you do, then I would do meetings. I did meetings at first but didn't really stay for them, just tracked everything on my app, and went in just to get weighed. i recently re-joined after ending my monthly pass a couple months ago, and now i'm doing it just online. Also the cost is different (monthly pass for meetings is more $). Good luck!

Been a while since I checked in... I had a .2 gain last week but I'm down a total of 11.6. I'm still having trouble drinking enough water but I've gotten better about breakfast.

You guys are all still going great! It's nice to see all the success stories :)

Hi! I think it's personal preference, but every time I've done WWs, I've done it through meetings (and I've been successful). I like the accountability of having someone weight me each week and getting a written record of my weigh ins. I also like the community/support aspect of the meetings. I think it's important to find the right fit in terms of meeting and leader, but if you do, you tend to get a lot of good tips, ideas, strategies. I always walk away feeling more motivated than I did going in. It helps to hear about people's successes and also their struggles.

I also use e-Tools, but I think the online message boards on the WW site can be a little harsh. I just lurk, but it seems the same people are very vocal on the boards and are very "holier than thou" about "working the program." Seems a little drama-ridden (makes LIF look like a love fest)! Chat Icon I do use the site, but I don't find it SO user friendly. But I know a lot of people do online and are very successful, so again, it's all about what you are looking to do.

If you go to the meetings and get a monthly pass, you get e-tools included, so the best of both worlds, imo. The first meeting you will sign up (fill out some basic paperwork), get weighed in, get a lot of introductory materials that explain the program. You can also stay after the meeting for the "new member" session (which is about 10 mins) during which the leader goes over the fundamentals and answers questions.

You could always try a meeting once and see what you think of it (don't commit to the monthly pass until you know you want to attend regularly). I think it helps to get the info from a live person, but then you can always switch over to online if you don't like it.

I go early on Saturday mornings, before I start my day or even eat breakfast. It works out great b/c DH stays with DS and it never interferes with any weekend activities.

Good luck, and welcome aboard!

Thank you for the advice!! I decided to go with the monthly pass, because I know for me it would be better to have that face to face interaction with someone versus solely online. Downloaded the app on my iPad and iPhone, so I'm ready to shed this weight!

I am sure you will do great! I think the hardest part is starting.

For me, when I've recommitted, it always takes a few weeks to "gear up" and get into the routine (and this last time, I had to learn the new points plus program). At first, it feels really labor intensive and time consuming - figuring out point values, looking things up, planning meals, tracking. But after a couple of weeks, it definitely becomes quicker and easier and eventually it's second nature. You start to get in the habit of doing things and you learn the program and points values of things you eat often.

WW is also kind of a slow and steady weight loss program. I always get a pretty big loss the first week, but then it's 1-2 lbs a week if you are lucky, and often it's fractions of a lb. So as long as you expect that, you will stick with it and not get fed up that it's "not working." I know with all of the work we put into it, we all want the lbs to fly off! But those fractions of a lb really add up over time! And WW is a really good long term program that you can live with. I appreciate that I can have wine, ice cream, dinners out, etc. and fit it into the WW program.

One thing I would say is that they definitely encourage you to buy a lot of WW product at the meeting locations. I kind of take it with a grain of salt... I would wait and then you can always buy what you know will help once you get started.

But one item I highly recommend you have from the start, whether you go with WW's or another brand, is a digital food scale, if you don't have one, that can weigh in grams. I use mine all the time at home when preparing food. It's much more accurate to weigh things like cereal, ice cream, etc. than to try to figure out or measure 1 cup, half a cup, etc. And for items like meat and poultry, it's the way to do it! The more accurate you can be with tracking your food, the better your losses will be. So I try to really track super accurately when I am eating and preparing food at home (when I am out or on the go, of course I just have to do the best I can do estimate).

Let us know if you have any questions!

Down 3.7 lbs from last week when I re-joined online... although my first initial week is always a good loss! But they are still reading my original start weight for when I first joined meetings at the end of January so now it said I hit my 5%.

Now I have to learn to be patient and not get frustrated if I have a .4 loss next week.

I am a little dissapoointed. I went into my 49 points this week for the first time, used maybe half and exercised. We'll see what happens next week, will try to stick to my 26 only.

Hope everyone has a good week.

I'm almost 5 months post partum, so figured it's time to finally do something about my eating! Just joined WW online in the hopes I can lose the last 15lbs I'm still carrying, and potentially even more. I would LOVE to be a few pounds lower than my pre-pregnancy weight. Look forward to chatting with everyone about ww.

I wouldn't be too disappointed... My second week on program (after I re-joined in Jan.) I only lost .2 lb, but I am down 26 lbs now (and was back at my Lifetime goal by April). So every little bit adds up! Some weeks I've had 2 lbs or 3 lbs losses, and others I've had very small losses, or even maintains or small gains. But it's the overall trend that really matters. If you are losing weight overall, the week to week number doesn't really matter, imo.

Also, I know people say that it's trial and error with the 49 points, and that not everyone can use them. But I use almost all of them every week. For me it makes the program really workable and allows me to go out from time to time and indulge in some treats, while still eating healthy overall. So I wouldn't just swear them off! I also get 26 pts a day, and it can be really hard to stick to that when you have a party or a restaurant meal or something. I think those 49 points provide needed flexibility.

I tend to have bigger losses when I vary my points per day. So eat 26 pts one day, and then maybe 20 of the weekly points the next day for a total of 46, and then 26, and then maybe 31, etc. A lot of people say they do better with mixing it up in terms of point values instead of just eating the same number of points each and every day.

But I think the key is to count very accurately, so that you are not really unknowingly going over the daily points and then tacking on the extra points. So I try to weight/measure food at home, look up exact point values when possible, etc.

But maybe you even ate more sodium than usual the day before weigh in, or had some extra water weight this week that prevented a bigger loss.

Keep going, you are doing great! I think 8 lbs in 3 weeks if amazing progress.
