Oh for the love of Pete...long IL vent.
I'll try to keep it short, but it's hard to.
We're hosting Thanksgiving - it will be me, DH, DS, my sister, her BF, FIL and MIL.
For WEEKS we've been asking what BIL, SIL and my 2 nephews are doing for Thanksgiving.
We've been told they are having it with her family, but they will stop by before to say "hi".
I don't get along with BIL, so that was just fine with me - quick visit and out.
So tonight, I ask FIL what time BIL is stopping by with the kids tomorrow.
FIL - "4:00."
Me - "But we'll just be sitting down to dinner then, can they come by earlier?"
FIL - "Sure - can we have dinner earlier then?"
Me -  "But they are going to dinner at her cousin's."
FIL - "No, we invited them here."
ME - ***INSERT HEAD EXPLODING ICON***
My FIL and MIL invited 4 more people TO OUR HOUSE and DID NOT TELL US until the night before.
I'm so mad. I didn't get a big enough Turkey. I didn't get things for the kids to do. I didn't get kid-appropriate drinks or extra chairs or anything.
I let them know that this was unacceptable and while I'll let eveyone come over tomorrow, it's a huge inconvenience and I don't like how it was handled.
My MIL proceeded to storm out of the house, saying I am forcing her to choose between her two sons and she's going to cook dinner over there and then come over here and cook.
WHAT THE F????
Now I'm suddenly the bad guy.
Happy flipping thanksgiving.

Wow - some nerve. That said, can your mil bring over chairs and make another entre at her house to bring to your house? I am SOOOOO sorry that they did not give you any notice.

I think that is rude, you don't just add 4 more people the night before, you have every right to be pizzed off!

I'm so sorry she did that to you. I would be just as ****** off as you are and would tell them that they can make dinner for everyone since they didn't bother to inform you so you can be sure to have enough food, drinks, etc. I know that's probaby not an option for you so here are some instead.

He was annoyed, but rebounded quicker than I did. Turns out they all knew about this for at least a WEEK and never told either of us. He wasn't happy.
Here's the real kicker for me.
We adjust, make sure we have enough food, get extra folding chairs, etc.
Then they have the F-ing NERVE to ask us to change our 4:00 dinner plans to 3:00 because they have plans for dessert.
Okay, so I call my sister who's driving from 4 hours away and ask her to leave earlier so she can get here by 3:00. She rearranges her plans to accomodate.
Then guess what time we sat down to dinner?
That's right, ladies.
4:00.
I wanted to stab someone in the neck with the meat thermometer.
