I would NOT put a seatbelt on the baby in the car...I don't even think the cab will allow it since it is illegal and very dangerous.
I would, however, call a family member or friend to come and help you. I would call the repair shop and tell them the situation. perhaps they can fix the car asap for you.
you should probably request a meeting with his main doctor in the hospital to go over everything.

Well, the car is ready. I just have to wait for my FIL to wake up from his nap to come here and take me to the repair shop since he has the other carseat in his car. I called the hospital and they said he's doing fine on the respirator -- is just sleeping since they have him sedated. I definately have a family member coming over at 4:30 to give me a little while to go up to the hospital without Emily since they won't let her into Intensive Care.
Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers everyone -- I really appreciate it. Hopefuly tomorrowh e'll be off the respirator and will do fine. They said it was necessary because he was having such a hard time breathing for so long that they had to do it so that his body could relax and the meds could be effective.

I just went up to the hospital and they wouldn't let me in.  The woman at the info desk said that the visiting hours were only 8-9 or 1-2 and I explained that I am his wife and she said that I still couldn't go!
So when I got back home I called his nurses again and they were upset because they need more info for his admission and were hoping to get it from me.
As far as how he's doing they said they are having a hard time keeping him sedated and he woke up and ripped out all of his lines and so they had to give him more to sedate him.  They are also having a hard time controlling his heart rate but they said that is probably because he is in such distress so they are now giving him meds for that too.
I hate not being able to just see him.
The nurse said she will call me back in a few minutes -- she had to go back and finish some stuff up with him but then she'll call me back to get more info for me and also to let me know if any of the tests come back. They are sending him in for a CAT scan of his chest soon so hopefully that'll give us more answers.
He is a bad asthmatic and he has been hospitalized before for it but it's never been this severe and it's just freaking me out.
