ok bad mommy day
Well about 5:30pm I was cooking diner and trying to make a cake and my 1 1/2 yr old was sitting at the table, well when I turned around to check the oven he fell off the chair right on his nose He had a little blood from his left nostril and was crying. So I picked him up tried pinching his nose with a tissue to get the blood and then a few mins. later he threw up. Now before this he just had a cup of milk so I don't know if he threw up from crying so hard and just drinking milk or what. Anyhow I called the emergency service and spoke with the dr and she said just to watch if he starts to act funny, and if he vommits again. Well he didn't and he was acting fine and is now sleeping but I feel so bad that I turned by back on him and he got hurt My question for you would you of taken you son to the hospital or do you think what I did was ok? I'm still going to call my ped in the am (the ped on call is a diff. office then the ped I use) and let him know what had happened but for some reason I am so nervous because he threw up. Any advise or opinions I would love to hear. TIA

Re: ok bad mommy day
Don't beat yourself up, accidents happen. I think I would have reacted the same, calling my drs emergency service...just watch him closely tonight and definately call in the AM just for reassurance. I think there is a certain amount of time to keep them up after a fall...does anyone know it for her?

Re: ok bad mommy day
This is a tough one-a fall from a chair with vomiting and some blood, I would probably go to an urgent care or ER.
YOu are not a bad mom-it's bound to happen

Re: ok bad mommy day
Well the ped I spoke to on call said he could go to sleep at his normal bed time but just check on him 1x in the middle of the night. I think what bothers me so much is the ped I spoke to I actually use to see and DON"T like or trust her one bit. I think I would of felt a lot better if it was my own dr

See that's what I would of thought but being he didn't hit his head I thought calling the emergency office would be ok but like you said the vommiting is what made me nervous. He did only throw up 1x and the dr on call said if he did it again then I would have to take him but luckily it was only once.

That stinks! If it makes you feel any better, DD fell on Friday. We did take her to the ER as the bump on her head was pretty bad. In any case, because she was acting like herself and seemed to have no side effects other than the bump, they didn't do an XRay and told us to wake her a few times throughout the night. So, after spending 3 hours at the ER we ended up with the same advice as you.

Re: ok bad mommy day
Maybe call back again, is it just that you paged your dr's emergency care and that particular dr called back? Does your insurance company offer a nurse phone service? Get another opinion, I think it'll make you more comforted. I would be the same way as you right now. Keep us updated.

Thank you for sharing. You think I would be use to this being I have 3boys with my oldest is going on 11 and this is far from the only accident but I just feel horrible.

Re: ok bad mommy day
Ok I feel a little better now I just called the lady I babysit for (she's a ped nurse and also teaches nursing at the college) and I told her everything that happened and she said that the vommit sounds like it was caused from him crying. Also if a child vommits from a head trama they will usually vommit up to 3x's after. She also said I should wake him 2-3x's instead of 1x at night just to make me feel better and call my ped in the am. Thank you all for listening to me I couldn't stop thinking about it but I think I can calm down a little now.
