ok ladies - I'm ready to face the sleep issue
We are cutting Cailen off from the swing cold turkey in 2 weeks.
Bring on the sleep books.
DH is opposed to reading a book for this. He said parents have been putting their kids to sleep for centuries without a how to book.
But I would like to maybe do a little reading on this....

Liza...as someone who has been through this I can tell you that it will all work out and there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
We had to pull DS from the swing cold turkey...poor guy went from 12 hours a day to 0. And yes...he cried and cried but by the end of the first week he adjusted very well. Now...you're gonna love this...he could care less for the swing and will only tolerate it for small periods. He falls alseep on his own or with a bottle and some gentle rocking. Once he's down in the crib he is out.

Re: ok ladies - I'm ready to face the sleep issue
I read the Dr. Weissbluth book...It was no help. Anyways how about trying a CD's with lullaby music. My son loves those...

Re: ok ladies - I'm ready to face the sleep issue
I'm a big fan of Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child and Secrets of a Baby Whisperer. Both really helped when Nate was a baby. I've applied many of the same learnings to Jayden and so far so good.

Heres the thing...
The batteries DIED last night in his swing, so it stopped working. And guess who stopped sleeping as a result????
This is gonna be tough. He finally fell asleep on my chest, but thats not what we will be aiming for come crib time....

Re: ok ladies - I'm ready to face the sleep issue
So he likes to swing.... does he like to vibrate? When we moved Kay into her crib we used the vibrator for a long time until the batteries went one night. I didnt know she could sleep without it, but now she does just fine. Maybe try that b/c it still some motion. I think they are on sale at babies r us for like $30.

Re: ok ladies - I'm ready to face the sleep issue
Liza, the reason he woke up is because babies need the same thing all night. When he changed sleep cycles, he woke up lightly, and said "hey. wait a minute. I fell asleep swinging and I'm not swinging anymore. WAAAAHHHH" Then he couldn't go back to sleep.
Try rocking him, until he gets really drowsey, then put him gently in the crib. This way, when he first falls asleep he is lying still in the crib, so when he wakes lightly during cycles, he will be the same way he fell asleep. The only thing is if he takes the paci, you may need to pop it in a few times, but that's another hurdle for another time.
Good luck!

I also suggest the Baby Whisperer. It helped me tremendously to get DD on a schedule and how to get her to sleep.

Re: ok ladies - I'm ready to face the sleep issue
healthy sleep habits and the ferber book saved my life, literally. if not for those books, eric would still be sleeping in the basement with hannah on his chest.
