Ok new problem at work....SERIOUSLY!!!

There is a new problem at work now. My friend that is in the room next to mine, is dealing with teachers, one in peticular. She is shaking the child, and screaming at him, the worst part about this is he is autistic...Chat Icon this is beyond mean. So my friend is GOING to REPORT this today, if something else happens...what do u think? Should she report it now? it's happened about 4 times, that she has seen...she hasn't documented it, but is a witness to this.

Thanks,

Sorry so longChat Icon

PS - If I found out a teacher was abusing my child like that and another teacher let it happen ONCE without reporting it - let alone FOUR TIMES - I would be absolutely livid. Your friend has a DUTY to report this immediately.

Absolutely agree. This should have been reported the 1st time. Don't wait for next time, this child needs help NOW.

OMG. She could be held responsible as well for NOT reporting it. Teachers and ANYONE who works in a helping-type profession has a duty to report IMMEDIATELY, even if they are "not sure" there is some kind of abuse going on, but suspect.

This is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO serious, your friend as well as the teacher can be in great trouble, your friend for not reporting it and the teacher for actually doing this. It is part of the SAVE regulation..
That teacher needs help, that's not how you deal with austic children
I don't know how, but some needs to x-post this to teachers post-- ( you will get an earful)
I'm a teacher, this is very bad........

I hope she listens to you and reports it. People who don't report incidents like this are part of the problem. Chat Icon

Re: Ok new problem at work....SERIOUSLY!!!

As the mom of an autistic child, I urge your friend or you to report it. This is so disturbing to hear. This is one of my biggest fear for DS. I am worried people will not treat him right when it's time for him to go to school. That he will start crying with no comfort, love and I won't be here to see it or know about it to protect him.

Re: Ok new problem at work....SERIOUSLY!!!

Okay, I just re-read this more closely and saw that you work at the same school. I am wondering (and perhaps some of the teachers or those more knowledgeable will weight in) - Do you know have a duty to report this? I know you didn't see it, but you were told about it...

Does anyone know?

ETA -- I recognize that there is a difference between reporting suspected abuse and just spreading unsubstantiated rumors, which is why I ask.

I'm sorry but if she doesn't say anything I think that you should - Make it clear that you have never witnessed it but that they should investigate it.

To be honest, I am much more worried about that poor child than your friend who has no courage so stand up for someone so helpless.

She can be doing PERMANENT damage to him, emotionally! I can't even imagine if this was my nephew I hope and pray that a responsible and intelligent adult would put an end to it, no matter what.

I have to agree.

Someone needs to speak up for this poor child.

Yes any news?
I also wanted to add that if you as an employee know about this you can and should report this- you too can also be in serious trouble for not coming foward with this information.
