um, WTH - problem with my new car

so dh took the car to work today. he just called me and said that the drivers side door is a different color than the rest of the car. can you see it?

External Image

i called the manager and asked him if the car was ever in an accident, he said no. i am bringing it in to chevy tomorrow for them to look at it. do i have any recourse here, i am leasing it

tia

UPDATE:

so I went back to the dealer and they seemed genuinely surprised about the mismatch. The manager spoke with the GSM (General Sales Manager, I am assuming) and said that no repairs were done at their site. He thought it must have came like that from the manufacturer. He told me they would "fix" it (repaint, new clear coat, etc) and give me a loaner car in the meantime

I told him that if it was not up to par after they re-painted it, I will expect a new car. Hopefully this works out, thanks all

Re: um, WTH - problem with my new car

Do a CARFAX report on the car now!

If they leased you a car that was in a wreck that they were passing as a NEW car, your lease contract should be VOID!

I would guess if the carfax came back fine then it was something that happened on their lot and their body shop fixed it. It's a newer car so I don't understand how they couldn't blend the paint to match.

Re: um, WTH - problem with my new car

carfax will only tell you if the vehicle was involved in a reported accident

the mismatching color may not necessarily mean the car was in an accident. it may have gotten scratched at the dealer or in transit and they repainted it. a good way to tell if it was repainted is to look very closely along the door edges, the window edge, and look for lines...kinda like what's left behind when you paint a wall but tape off any borders or edges, and then peel off the tape.

in any case, if this car is brand new, it should definitely not have such an obvious defect.

ITA. I bought a used car, and did a Carfax report on it. Came back clean. It was in an accident a few years later, and when they were fixing it, they told me that it wasn't a stock color, it was obviously repainted, the grill wasn't right for that model/year, etc.

I think it was banged in the lot and they tried to hide it....

Re: um, WTH - problem with my new car

Definitely I would bring it back and tell them you will call the AG if they do not replace it-why should you pay for a 'brand new" car when it has been dinged

Re: um, WTH - problem with my new car

If they refuse to rectify the issue by giving you another vehicle, call the big guys in Detroit. Tell them you already told 10 people about it and plan to tell the world how cr@ppy they are. The big 3 in detroit have had several quarters in a row that were really bad and they don't want any more. If that does not work, call a lawyer. Sorry this happened to you!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

so if they offer to repaint it, I should still ask for it to be replaced?

your better off working with the dlrshhp and seeing if you can work it out with them...when you call "Detroit" you are not getting the big wigs you are getting a call centre...i worked at one of them for GM...we just called the dlrshp and tried to get them to work with you about the problem...hate to burst everyones bubble about that but its true...

well, seeing as how it looks like they already repainted it, i dont think painting it yet again is going to rectify the problem

unless you can deal with having one door different from the rest of the car, the only resolution i can see is them giving you a new car OR somehow reworking your lease to lower the price of the car

the car is obviously defective, no matter which way you look at it. i'm surprised you didnt catch this sooner.

ETA: not that I'm blaming you. I'm just saying, it's pretty clear about the color mismatch.

Re: um, WTH - problem with my new car

I used to be an auto appraiser and there are some cars that have this problem from the factory. Particularly, the Toyota Corolla in white. The bumper is a completely different color than the rest of the car, very noticeable. So it may not have been in accident before, it could have come from the factory like this. But that is very noticeable.
