DD # 1 held her bottle asap b/c it was a playtex plastic bottle with the bag and it weighed nothing.

DD # 2 uses Dr. Browns. The bottle is much heavier. At 8 months I am still holding the bottle. However once she takes down an ounce or 2 she can hold it herself.

She holds her sippy cup at 8 months but it's the one with the 2 handles on the side.

Every kid is different. My niece refused to hold her own bottle and she was 14 months.

DD started to hold her own bottle at 4 1/2 months. She started holding her own sippy cup when we first started to give it to her at 6 months old.

My DD didn't hold her own bottle until around 9 months and the sippy 10 months.

Have you tried not holding his bottle? See what he does. Maybe if he realizes that he isn't going to get anything to drink until he holds his bottle then he'll start holding it.

DD never held her own bottle...at 12 months, I stopped giving it to her anyway. She started holding her own sippy around that time...but she only uses the ones with the straw, and doesn't like the ones where she has to tilt her head back.

DS doesn't hold his own bottle either. He's 8 1/2 months. At daycare, they start to try to get them to hold their own bottle at 6 months. He isn't having it!! If I just give it to him to see what he'll do with it, he grabs it and just plays with it. Turns it upside down, bites on the nipple, bites on the bottom, etc.
