I agree.

I was reading the story about the accident in Smithtown yesterday where a woman was killed by a drunk driver. (A poster on here knows the womaChat Icon ) The driver was arrested and given $75,000 cash / $150,000 bond! WHY??? That needs to change.
And of course he was convicted in 1999 for driving while impared.Chat Icon
Newsday story

Thanks for posting this - I will try and get a sympathy card out to her family. As for the charges - I'm hoping they are just waiting to update the charges because this man has to be charged with vehicular homicide/manslaughter or criminally negligent homicide. God, the DA's in Suffolk are so easy-going with this stuff... I wouldn't be surprised if this guy doesn't serve any time. I hope I have to eat my words one day but probably not. Chat Icon What a disgrace. In Nassau - there would be more hope of SOME justice.

ETA: Just checked, she is listed so I'll send her husband a sympathy card - I can't even imagine what they are going through - she has two daughters. She was on her way to work and had just left - she was only blocks from her home.Chat Icon

That story has been on my family's mind and heart since we heard about it. That driver also lived less than 1/4 mile from the victim - and he was drunk and on XANAX when he hit her. I'd expect some serious charges, but I know not to be surprised anymore. WHY is there such a difference between Nassau/Suffolk, I don't get it????

Because the District Attorney in Nassau is tough on Drunk Driving (Kathleen Rice) and chooses to go after them as much as she can -- as much as the law allows. She even recently got the law made harsher for those who kill someone when driving drunk - depraved indifference. The DA in Suffolk - well, he just doesn't care. He doesn't have a passion for getting those people and allows the "slap on the wrists" to take place. Chat Icon Shame on him!
