I wouldn't wear something from a school I didn't attend. It's weird IMO. And what makes a sweatshirt from Yale more comfortable than one from a junior college??

ETS: If you're a fan of a school team that's a different story. But yes, I do find it strange to wear apparel from institutions from which you have absolutely no affiliation. How does that even happen? Do you walk into random school/university bookstores and pick out a shirt or hat for the hell of it?? Chat Icon

Sure, if I'm traveling, I'll go to a school's bookstore. I visted about 25 schools when I was looking at colleges... then even more when I was looking at law schools. If I find something I really like, I might buy it. Why not?

At the moment, I have NO apparel from schools I didn't attend (that Yale sweatshirt eventually died! Chat Icon), but I don't think it's weird if people do have it. Considering 99% of my time, I'm either dressed for the office or for riding my horses, I don't have much time to wear college apparel. Chat Icon

So how do you know who's a fan of school team and who's not based on the school sweatshirt they're wearing? Chat Icon Most of the time they just sport the school name and/or mascot, not the actual team.

I used be at a lot of regattas and various schools sold t-shirts at them for fundraising. I thought they were cool, so I bought them. I predominently wore them during crew practice or for running, but it wasn't (still isn't) uncommon for me to run out to a store wearing one. I used to travel for crew too, so I would stop at the local university's bookstore and pick up t-shirts as well...if I liked them. (I had a great BU one until an exboyfriend stole it! Chat Icon )

Re: OK to wear clothing to school you didn't attend?

We're big Notre Dame fans in my house, so we have a ton of Notre Dame apparel (even our dog has a jersey). One of my favorite t-shirts is an Army shirt (the simple ARMY shirt that they wear for basic training... the old school one that doesn't have that "A" on the back). But that's because FH's best friend was in the Army and served in Iraq... we're proud of him.

Wear what you like. I don't think it's "wierd" if someone chooses to wear a Michigan sweatshirt, but has never stepped foot on the campus... who am I to judge their reasoning for wearing it.

Edited for spelling.. apparently I don't know the difference between "where" and "wear" Chat Icon Chat Icon

Not cool to wear a sweatshirt for a school you didn't attend! I'm faithful to my Columbia sweatshirt, we have a really good relationship. Chat Icon

noooo, I'm a purist... if I were to wear a sweatshirt, I'd have to be affiliated to the university somehow....

I have tons of Syracuse stuff and i am proud to wear it:

As far as wearing stuff from other schools, I would wear it as a souvenir. At least it is more practical than a pennant of foam finger.
