Okay so i have to ask... coming home outfit
What's the big deal?
I don't know. Maybe i'm not in the norm here, but my kid will be wearing a onesie and a pair of pants. I don't feel that it needs to be anything special. Especially since i'm sure we'll change him/her once he/she spits up or otherwise during the day. Plus i feel like most people won't visit that first day you're home.
Thoughts?

You are totally right.
DS wore overalls and a onesie and he peed on it as soon as we tried to change his diaper when we got home
Just do something cute and comfy.

Yeah I don't really get it either. Once they are all stuffed into the car seat you won't be able to see the outfit!

Re: Okay so i have to ask... coming home outfit
I felt the same way, and then 1 week before my due date I suddenly wanted a coming home outfit. I went to BRU and got this teensy tiny white eyelet dress.
It was a pain to put on her. It was too big, and obviously uncomfortable, and as soon as we got home I put her in a onesie.
Thankfully, I only spent a few dollars on it, but it really was a waste of $$.
For the next one () it will come home in a onsie and pants, or a sleep and play.

I agree. I am planning to put baby in a onsie and a sleeper with footies and a cap (and lots of blankets). Nice and comfortable.

You're right...it's not a 'big' deal. But, when it's your first, for some reason every little thing becomes a big deal.
Now that I'm having my 2nd, I don't find myself planning out the going home outfit, etc.

I didn't go crazy with the coming home outfit. It was actually a gift which I received at my baby shower! It just happened to be the perfect outfit since it has the jacket and the pants that I was intending on using..... My gf also bought the matching onesies, and I think my grandmother bought her the socks that I intend on using.

Re: Okay so i have to ask... coming home outfit
I just picked up an outfit this past weekend in Macys. It came with a sweater, two onesies, two pairs of pants and a headband. We will use this as the coming home outfit and use it until DD grows out of it.
I don't see any reason to purchase an outfit for a one-time thing like the car ride home!!

Re: Okay so i have to ask... coming home outfit
nothing special... just something nice to welcome your child into your /their home. It's a big deal, imo. With that said the only 'new' thing my DD#2 has gotten or will get is her 'coming home' outfit. It was $10 and totally worth it! she'll wear it again that month.

It is something that he only wore home from hospital and I have it saved. IMO, it is sentimental and I look forward to the day that I show it to DS~

Sentimental reasons- it's not imiportant to everyone. I want to find a nice looking gender neutral outfit so that my next can come home in it as well.

Re: Okay so i have to ask... coming home outfit
Its no big deal but I have to admit that although I will be giving some of my DD's clothes to my sisters child to wear I will never part with the outfit she wore home from the hospital. It just brings back so many more memories than some of her other outfits.
Oh and it wasnt anything fancy just a cute pink all in one outfit from baby gap.

Re: Okay so i have to ask... coming home outfit
We just brought one of the outfits I rec'd at my shower and no sooner did we put her in it, she projectile spit up all over herself. And we didn't have anything else to put her in so she came out in a cute outfit covered in spit up.
We had a ton of visitors our 1st day home. We were pooped and couldn't wait for them to leave.

Re: Okay so i have to ask... coming home outfit
I don't think I will put all that much planning into what wears home b/c it will really only be DH & I who see him. I wanted a day or two to ourselvees before people start to visit at home. Like I want to get to know my son while keeping the dog from bothering guests AND hosting? He'll wear something cute when everyone comes to see him.

Re: Okay so i have to ask... coming home outfit
Well I agree with what you are saying but then again I do see it as special. A Mom is bringing her baby home for the very first time. I think that is extra special and priceless. Since she has 9 months of waiting and all this time on her hands, why not shop for an outfit?
Why not shop for an outfit. It's fun! It doesn't have to be pricey at all.
I loved shopping for my take home outfits but i'll tell you one thing they were $20 and less.

Re: Okay so i have to ask... coming home outfit
i like the idea for sentimental reasons. i am excited to put it in the closet and think "wow a real person is going to be wearing that in 10 weeks." really, there is no real logical or compelling reason to have an outfit set aside for the many reasons posters have listed above. so, it's a case of "to each her own."

Yes- I've been doing some thinking, and it's probably on the same field as buying a "day after wedding brunch" dress. Or a hoodie to wear while getting your wedding hair done. Obviously not a necessity, but still- why not.

Ditto.
I have both of my kids coming home outfits in their respective memory box with their hospital bands, sonogram pics, my diary(ies), pregnancy pics and their record books.
