Re: Old fashioned in home birthday party???
I think it sounds great! These are the kind of parties I'll do for DS (except for a few milestone ones).

Re: Old fashioned in home birthday party???
I just posted a related thread on the School Aged Children board.
IMO, it is insane what people spend on parties. I have never spent more than about $300 on a party and never will. My kids have all had "old-fashioned" birthday parties at home. I think party places are crazy overpriced and I would rather make the memories at home with friends and family. I know that there are a lot of people on the boards that spend $$$$$ on parties, but I just think it's gotten totally out of control. JMHO

Re: Old fashioned in home birthday party???
They are nice if you have the room.
I do not so I have them out because it I did it once and it cost me more at home than out and I had no clean up afterwards--

Re: Old fashioned in home birthday party???
This is the only way that we have any party in our family. We cannot afford the "party places" and honestly, I enjoy them more being at home. DS#1 will be 3 in Sept and we are only doing immediate family. DS#2 will be 1 in Nov and we'll do a big one for him at home. There is just too much going on!!!

Re: Old fashioned in home birthday party???
We just had a party in our yard for Lily's birthday...we had a bounce house, a play car, a play house, bubbles, music, a pinata, cake, and food. Kids running around everywhere, adults sitting and chatting (one in the bounce house). So low stress and so much fun!

Re: Old fashioned in home birthday party???
I actually really prefer in-home parties! It is so much more manageable (especially with my little one when there is a fence ) and I am able to relax so much more. I do think the kids have so much more fun too. I only have parties outside of my house because I live in a town home and don't have access to any private space outside. While I am more than happy to host play dates, it can be a little overwhelming to host too many kids in my basement

Re: Old fashioned in home birthday party???
We had my son's first birthday at our house and we are having his 2nd birthday party this weekend at our house. The kids last year all had a blast and all said it was the best birthday party ever. They love the traditional games and I plan on making it very fun for them. I'm doing musical chairs, water balloons, pin the tail, pinata, tattoos and make your own cupcakes. Plus we have an inflatable bouncer that we will blow up for the party.

Re: Old fashioned in home birthday party???
DD's 1st birthday was an old fashioned backyard b-day party and her 2nd was immediate family in the house. I may do something for her third but I'm fairly certain most of my kids b-day parties will be the old fashioned backyard or house kind.

Re: Old fashioned in home birthday party???
No, I think these are lovely. We used a pretty modest indoor space that was rented for my son's 2nd (at a community center), but his birthday is in December, and there was no way I could see 12 2 year olds and parents fitting in our house happily.
Other than that, it was just like a house party. The kids mostly played with toys and play-doh, and they ate pizza and cake. That was it, no fanfare, and so many parents told me they loved going to a low key party and thought the kids seemed happier and no meltdowns in the bunch!
I tend to prefer less for young kids, but everyone is different.

Re: Old fashioned in home birthday party???
I say have it! I really wanted to do it this year for DD but was just too busy to plan it. I actually look forward to having kids over for a b-day party like we did when we were small.

Re: Old fashioned in home birthday party???
we did this kind of party last year for ds and will be doing it again this year.
IMHO, toddlers don't need much. There will be plenty of times to spend lots of $$ on them when they're older. Sometimes less is more.

Re: Old fashioned in home birthday party???
We did that for DS's 7th b-day last month. It was just a few of his close friends, not the entire class. We were having construction done in one of the rooms, and all the drywall was coming down a week or two after the party. I gave the boys chalk, markers, water, and told them to do WHATEVER they wanted on the walls.....
They had a BLAST!
(I drew the "Happy Birthday" graffiti on the wall. He thought that was soo cool)
(I wouldn't recommend this theme unless you are taking the sheetrock down, or repainting the entire room.... ) Image Attachment(s):

Re: Old fashioned in home birthday party???
All the kids' bday parties have been backyard old school parties.
We are having a big joint party for both kiddos on Sat. w/ a bouncer, pools for the kids, rollercoaster, swingset, ice pops, BBQ, ride on toys, etc.
MAYBE once they're in school that'll change, but DH is against the party type places.
