Olympic coverage $%*#!!!!
I'm on the computer all day. I like to come home and watch the Olympics. What I don't like is seeing what happens at the Olympics before I get to watch it. I wish the online news outlets had spoiler alerts and links so I didn't have to see what happens if I don't want to.
I can't friggin' stand going online and the first thing that pops up is who took gold right away. Ruins the whole experience!!!
I can't be the only one that feels this way.

Re: Olympic coverage $%*#!!!!
I'm watching throughout the day but they don't show everything on TV, some things like gymnastics and certain swimming they seem to save for primetime.
I'm on a news/social media/tv/radio blackout until we get Tivo caught up enough on prime time that we can skip all the commercials.

Re: Olympic coverage $%*#!!!!
Your post was my FB status the other night, almost word for word. I had inadvertently read that we won team gold and I was so excited to watch it that night. I was VERY bummed. Same thing just happened to me about 5 mins ago... tonight has also been spoiled. I hate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At least on people.com they phrase the headline as a question ("did the US women take gold??") so you can decide whether or not to click on it. My sister subscribes to CNN breaking news alerts on her phone and she was spoiled that way too. It's such a bummer!!!!!

Most people are avoiding news site for this reason.
I find out but still watch to see how it happened.

I wish it were that easy.
It just kills the excitement of watching. It's like knowing the ending to a really good book or movie. Kills the suspense. I like watching while I bite my nails, cover my eyes and cheer on the underdog.
Such a bummer.

Re: Olympic coverage $%*#!!!!
I don’t know. I still like WATCHING the events. Like I knew that there was devastation with Jordan Wieber but didn’t SEE it until later that night. It was so sad. Knowing ahead of time didn’t take it away.
Knowing what Michael Phelps got didn’t lessen the gasp at watching it happen.
However, in general I just don’t look at CNN or any news channel. I do look at the 2012 London Olympic Medal Count. I like watching the back and forth between China & USA. I think Yahoo News says SPOILER in front of its stories.
I’m one of those see it for myself kind of people. Telling me isn’t enough I want to SEE it! I record the 7pm run and start watching around 8pm – 8:30, so I can fast forward through commercials.

Re: Olympic coverage $%*#!!!!
No, you are not alone. I have to avoid using the web entirely if I don't want to get spoiled. It annoys me sooooo much! Especially since they could show it live during the day and they don't. So I don't even have the option of watching it live if I could. So they make me wait, but even the nbcolympics main website spoils me. So if I want to look up when to watch on tv, I get spoiled first. It makes no sense.

ITA, knowing beforehand makes it way less exciting and enjoyable for me.

Olympic coverage $%*#!!!!
This pisses me off too. The results from 2 nights ago were sent via push notification to my phone by Newsday. I sent them an email to complain and then turned off all push notifications from all news outlets. I also left comments on various news pages I follow on FB to ask them to put a spoiler alert and then attach a link so it's not ruined. Today I just decided to remove them from my news feed until after the Olympics.

Re: Olympic coverage $%*#!!!!
Agreed. I wonder if it is because of the time difference. I love watching it at night but whether it is from internet or other people it always seems like I hear about what happened already. I wish I could just be surprised

Yeah I'm slightly annoyed that I found out some stuff I wanted to watch because people posted it on FB. I know they probably didn't mean to spoil it for others but it kinda did

Olympic coverage $%*#!!!!
This has really ticked me off the past few days, and this might be stupid, but I have unliked some fan pages on FB over it. All of the offenders were Long Island local pages (swimming school, kids entertainment directory, etc.) I think it's just plain rude to spoil it for everyone else waiting to see it when it's aired on TV. Use some common sense!

Re: Olympic coverage $%*#!!!!
OMG! This ticks me off too! NBC could have covered the popular events like gymnastics and swimming during the day and again during primetime but no, they show things that I don't like watching at all like rowing, water polo, weight lifting and synchronized diving...
And they do this even though they could have shown popular events like swimming and gymnastics live during the day.
I've resorted to watching the events live on nbcolympics.com. :P

Re: Olympic coverage $%*#!!!!
UGH! I get CNN breaking news emails, and the info was right in the subject line, so I couldn't avoid finding out! After a few days, they started putting "OLYMPIC RESULT" in the subject line instead, so at least I knew not to open it, but then I ended up hearing results on the evening news or on the radio. It totally took the excitement out of watching gymnastics and swimming.

Re: Olympic coverage $%*#!!!!
Anyone trying to watch the 2012 Olympics should get a gold medal. I feel like I am chasing the event/s. The online live feeds pause all too often and many commercials. I have kinda given up and just get the post results when it happens. Bummer

This. I stopped CNN alerts this week so I could avoid the news and then say that Gabby won gold on my friend's facebook wall. I told her she ruined my night and she said, "oh, you would have heard anyway." I know that might be true but I was really doing everything I could to avoid news. Oh well. It was still awesome to watch her.

I thought this to. W went online to look something up. Our home page is MSN. There in front of me was Gabby Douglas holding hergold. Kind of like the drama and antiCipation of e watching it.
