OMFG so scary...DD's leg was STUCK in the crib slat today for 5 minutes!!!

She was crying in her room after her nap. I went to get her and her leg was sticking out through the crib slat (this has happened before, but her leg always came out easily)....I went to slide it out and it was literally stuck at the knee. She was hysterically crying...it was HORRIBLE...I, of course, start crying b/c I COULD NOT get her leg out. I seriously thought it was going to be broken!!! Anyway...I finally decided to try and take her pj pants off and that did the trick....I finally got her leg out. She was so happy to be free....she is fine and I can't even see a bruise yet....

We had taken out her bumpers a few weeks ago b/c I kept hearing that the babies can use the bumper to get out of the crib. Now I don't know what to do...f*cking Pottery Barn Kids crib...I am so angry!!! I hated seeing her in so much pain...

Has this happened to anyone else's DC??

Before I had my baby, I remember my parents' neighbor calling to ask for help with this same problem. My dad went over there and got the baby's leg out. I think he was calmer than the mom, so he was able to figuire out an angle to slide the baby's leg out. She didn't get hurt but her mom was very upset. Chat Icon

Yup, it has. It's the worst thing to experience EVER! You go into panic mode!

I'm so sorry this happened to you and I'm happy to hear that she is okay.

That's part of the reason why I've kept the bumpers in.Chat Icon

I took the bumpers off Jack's crib too - and am dreading if this happens.

How about getting the breathable bumpers?

This happend all the time when DD started rolling in her sleep. We never had bumpers to begin with- so I got the breathable bumpers. Works like a charm- no more caught arms and legs.

DS has done this too. Not that bad though but he cries because he is stuck.

I cannot use a bumper because he is into everything and cannot trust him with anything in his crib.

What kind of crib do you have? I would suggest the breathable bumper.

I can't use it because it's not made for solid wood side cribs. Otherwise I would.

Glad she is OK.

happened to us as well. We had breathable bumpers...he must have been standing on them, but his leg was straight down throught the bars.

We couldn't keep his leg straight to get out of the bars.

That is why I use bumpers.....it happened once with my DS at my SIL's house in my nieces crib b/c they dont use bumpers.

I think this kind of thing happens more often than babies suffocating on the bumpers.

Yikes, how traumatic was that (for both of you) Chat Icon I'd say definitely get some breathable bumpers. I have them but haven't switched them yet.

Im glad she is OK....

It was stuck at the knee cap right???? You have to turn their leg to get it out...basically if they are lying on their back and their leg is caught you need to turn the leg (or the baby) on its side and the leg will come right out.

I survived this one as well...

Re: OMFG so scary...DD's leg was STUCK in the crib slat today for 5 minutes!!!

Oh thats the worst!!! You poor thing!!! And poor Madison!!!

Heres the thing - my gma rented a crib in Florida, and I was too lazy to put the bumpers in after unpacking, running around all day, and putting him down late at night...

Well, in the middle of the night - we heard such a loud THUMP from his head hitting the bars, and he woke up screaming, I put the bumpers in immediately... His legs and arms were also getting thru the bars - I couldnt deal with it....

Glad she was okay Chat Icon

I still have the bumpers in and DD has never tried to climb on them. Does your DD stand? If not, I would probably put them back in and just put the crib on the lowest setting.

Glad she is okay! I think you are making the right decision with the breathable bumpers. While this is horrible, at least it was just for a moment and then she was okay. The dangers of traditional bumpers, while less frequent, have far worse consequences.

Try the breathable bumpers. We got them, I can't vouch for them since DS isn't able to do much other than roll around a little yet, but it seems as if they would protect him, at least now.
