OMG!!! 2 1/2 year old CIO help..... PLEASE
DS used to go down to bed NO PROBLEMS after successfully doing CIO when he was 8 months old. FOr the past 3 nights he screams. We're going on 20 minutes now of TORTURE!!! I gave in the first night he started this b/c I thought for sure he was sick or something. But now it's EVERY night. Could one night of going in to him make him TOTALLY regress like this? How long to get him back on track?
OR, since we are going to start him in a big boy bed soon I just go ahead and do that now and start all over?????????
PLEASE HELP!!! I"m exhausted!
ETA: Now he's saying "I want my Mommy over and over and over... This kills me! I don't know what to do. I will feel guilty about this ALL day tomorrow....

Honestly, I'd go in and comfort him tonight and then try to figure out what the problem is. Maybe a nightmare? Or afraid of the dark? And then try to work on fixing it and do CIO again if you need to

But that's what I need three nights ago that I think started this all over again. I went in and comforted him but the he wanted me in there every time he opened his eyes. It was like having a newborn again. And, it's not that he goes to sleep and wakes up, so I don't THINK it's a nightmare. It's before I even get to the door in his bedroom that he starts screaming.
PS How is your DS adjusting to his big boy bed now? DId he adjust pretty quickly?

I saw your other post where you said your FIL had a heart attack. Is it possible your DS senses things are wrong? Maybe he is scared/anxious? Maybe try to comfort him for now.

Ugh, its so hard
I just read your other post, maybe that is some of the problem too? There is a LOT of family stress and even thought we try to keep the kids out of it, they do know
He is doing good, thank you for asking, he just wakes up too early for my liking now

I thought of that too, but I just don't know. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. He is quiet now, so I HOPE it stays that way.........
There's just so much going on right now I feel like I'm losing it.

Re: OMG!!! 2 1/2 year old CIO help..... PLEASE
Can you start him in a big bed now? My son went into a bed at 2 years old and it was a lot easier.
I would lay down in bed with him for a few minutes & then say I was going to be right back. I have to check on Daddy. The first night I came back after a minute or 2. & laid down for longer, then whispered I had to go potty and would leave. He fell asleep waiting for me to come back. You can make it longer each time.
If you can't do the bed, I would not CIO right now. It's too stressful for all of you. I'm a big proponent of CIO'ing early because my son was CIOed older & he would throw up from crying. Later he would cry "Mommy, I crying. You hear me. Mommy, I crying." and DH would say "Don't go in. We have to do this." Then he would say "Daddy? You there. I crying?" and DH would GET UP & GET HIM. Otherwise, no 14 year old wants to sleep in their parents' bed.

Re: OMG!!! 2 1/2 year old CIO help..... PLEASE
The same thing happened to me also. We did CIO when he was 11 months with success, he would sleep for 11/12 hours. Then all of a sudden at 25 months he started throwing his blanket out of the crib & repeating like 100000 times "mama I drop bee". I had to do CIO ALLLL over again. It was 3 nights of torture. He would fall asleep standing up . But It did work hes back in his crib without even so much as a peep. Hope this helped.
