OMG! I hate Leappad!
This thing is freaking ridiculous. How could you have a toy like this without rechargeable batteries? And why do I have to keep uploading and downloading to my computer for this freaking thing to work? And why can't my kid wash the stupid dog or give it treats without having "tokens"? That's all he likes to do on it so we keep running out of freaking shampoo & treats!
To top it off I fogot my password for the freaking website, requested it FOUR times to be sent to my e-mail - NOTHING!
Now I've been on hold with customer service for over 10 minutes trying to get my password reset!
A TOY SHOULDN'T BE WORK FOR A PARENT!!!
Sorry, vent over....
ETA - still on hold - over 20 minutes!

Re: OMG! I hate Leappad!
I have heard so many complaints about this thing. I predict an overflow of them on ebay and craigslist shortly after Christmas!

Thanks for posting this... I thought I was the only one. Everybody is so crazy about this thing and I wish I never bought it...
And by the way - I bought it a few months ago and paid $99 - third party retailers have pushed to $200! Ridiculous.

I guess I better take it out of the box & see how it functions before giving it to my DS for Christmas.

Re: OMG! I hate Leappad!
I don't really have these issues with it and my DD has had it since Sept. She plays it a decent amount but the batteries last a while, if you go through them fast maybe get rechargeables. As for the games, when she first got it I downloaded a bunch of games for her and then I've never hooked it up again to my computer to do anything. What's on there keeps her plenty busy. I don't know, I think it's a pretty neat toy and my DD really likes it.

I guess I better take it out of the box & see how it functions before giving it to my DS for Christmas.
I did this
I opened it up, put in batteries, set up her name, held up her school photo in front of the camera for her picture, downloaded the three games, downloaded a spanish flashcards my aunt wants to use with her and most importantly tied in the stylus since my 3yr would lose a loose one for sure! Lastly we put in her one Disney game we bought her to make sure it was loaded. We set up her pet and test ran the games as guest. Just so WE understand how they work, etc. So we can easily help her find what she wants, show her what is age appropriate for her right now, etc.
We took less than 5 secs looking at it then also went online and ordered a screen protector!
We both agree to move onto rechargable batteries as well and order an AC adapter. If we can make her believe or understand she can play as long as she wants if its on the 'cord' and without a cord it 'dies' we may have a winner! LOL
Going to have to rebox it in a normal box (it fits into her shoe boxes actually) and wrap it up for her. But yes, I wanted to be sure it worked and I knew what to expect out of it!

We did the same thing when my DD got it. I set it all up before giving it to her so she could just hop on and play. I recommend everyone do that when they get it.

Re: OMG! I hate Leappad!
Ours takes rechargable batteries and does not act like yours does. We recharge it once a week. Did you get a lemon? How long do you let your DC play with it at one time? We limit it to 15 minutes per day otherwise I feel that coupled with TV time it is to much screen time for a young child.
As for tokens, yes it does require them. But he earns them by playing the games on it. Once a month I go and upload it to my computer to give him more shampoo/food/treats. It's been fine for us. Sorry that you are having a problem with it.

we did the exact same thing. If you are giving this gift for the holidays I would do it too. You cannot play with the toy right out of the box. You will need about 30 minutes to set it up.
