Another I HATE CABLEVISION post (this is long but worth it I think) - OMG another update
And I'm not even a customer!!
Right before the ish went down with Scripps, DH and I were considering switching (back) to Cablevision, which we last had about 2 years ago, because we could get a better price. We had a guy come to the house, get a quote and a $20 deposit, and we made an installation appointment.
Well after finding out that DH's parents had switched to Cablevision the week prior, and were switching back after only one week because the service was SO atrocious, and Cablevision had totally misled them on what their bill was going to be (like charging them @ $50 more than their contract stated), we tried to cancel our appointment.
Unfortunately, we called right before Christmas, so all we could do was reschedule, not cancel, since they were closed.
We rescheduled and they gave us an appiontment time of 11-2pm for 1/2/10. We planned on calling to cancel before then, but honestly forgot about it because of the holidays. DH and I were in Boston that weekend. When we came home we had two messages from Cablevision from Jan 2nd that it was 3:15pm and they were there and no one was home. This is over an hour past when they said they would be there, which worked in our favor since we could say that we left at 2 pm when no one showed up.
DH called that Monday (the 4th) to cancel our order. He spoke with TWO different people that night (since the first lady rudely hung up on him before he could finish talking to her) and confirmed TWICE that the order was cancelled, the appointment was cancelled, and the $20 would be refunded.
DH spoke with Verizon yesterday about a issue with our bill, and was told that their computers showed that not only did we have a pending order for Cablevision, they had RESCHEDULED us for installation on 2/3/10 without our consent. DH was LIVID. He called Cablevision right away, and got a call back from Verizon about 10 minutes later to confirm that the Cablevision install had finally been cancelled.
What kind of sh!t are they trying to pull? I can't even wrap my head around how shady they are.

DH just got a call from Cablevision looking to reschedule our appointment. He informed the woman calling that he had cancelled, and she asked why. He told her because (a) they were late for their appointment and (b) Verizon is better . She then stated, "Well how is Verizon better? They're just a phone company."
DH told her that in his opinion, Verizon was better, end of story.
I wonder if we'll hear from them again
(FTR there are a number of reasons why we prefer Cablevision, including numerous cable outtages, which never happen with Fios, the awful horrible guide, and modem speed, but he wasn't about to get into that with her!)

i just found out from a neighbor that fios will be the same price for more stuff... i'll be making the phone calls, this weekend
i really hate cablevision, too

I haven't either. I have no loyalty to them or anyone else, but our service has been fine since we signed up.

the same sales associate has literally been to my bosses house 3 times in the last two weeks bc she switched, she has asked them to stop coming and they keep showing up asking to speak to her husband instead.
We are switching to verizon this week.

I had the worst service and experience with CV. I hate them with a passion. I will do everything in my power to not go back to CV.

I haven't had any customer service issues - Meaning, I haven't needed to call them for anything.
But, I had FIOS when we lived in Fort Salonga and now we have Cablevision because where we moved doesn't offer FIOS yet and the difference in the quality is pretty obvious.
Cablevision takes a very long time to load (when hitting the info button or guide). I will sit there sometimes for 2-3 minutes just watching it try to load. We have problems where it will just go out for periods of time. And the internet service is MUCH slower. That's the biggest difference.
I enjoyed FIOS much more. But, we don't have it yet so there's not much I can do. They are saying that we will have it soon though but DH and I are house-hunting lol and moving into our own home - fingers crossed that it will be wherever we end up!

Hands down, they have the worst customer service EVER. I hate them. I have to exchange two boxes because they don't work properly and I am just dreading going and doing this. I would get FIOS in a minute if I could.

I was annoyed that they changed the movie channels around- but I really have no issues with them either

took me 15 minutes to exhange a box last week- girl could not have been more helpful
she even explained how to re set it up
and overroad the fact that I was late paying this month- she was suppose to make me pay- but I told her I would just pay when I got home (and I did)

They suck and so do the knicks and rangers! haha
I didn't even think of getting Cablevision when I moved back to LI from Queens. I would never! I'd get satellite before I got CV!

I wish verizon fios would come to brookhaven because once they come to rockypoint, Its Bye,Bye cablevision... I dont understand why they wont let it come to brookhaven i guess they're afraid they will lose all of their customers if it did.

yeah i have no problems with cablevision either. my mother and i have actually been harrassed by Fios people to switch and don't leave us alone even though we say no!

Cablevision has the only customer service people i have ever cursed out...haha...they would call my house literally 3 times a day trying to get us to add our DSL & phone ..the guy arrogantly says "SO i guess you like paying more in taxes and fees then" i promptly told him to go EFF himself & that their arrogance & crappy customer service was one of the many reasons i hated them & that if they ever called my house again they'd be sorry...i just got Direct TV a week or so ago after the HGTV fiasco....buh buy Cablevision!!!

When I cancelled with Cablevision (4 years ago!) the customer service man said the same exact thing.
My response was "Well if you stuck to cable and didn't offer phone service Verizon wouldn't have bothered with the tv".
He shut up.
To this day they STILL leave cards, knock on our door and call.
I am gonna go watch HGTV now...
