Congratulations!!!!!!!! That is something to be very proud of...I visited years ago for 2 weeks and personally LOVE Ireland...the people were incredible and the country rich in culture and history. I went ALL over too and stayed with friends so I got to see it and live it not so much like a tourist and LOVED every minute.
Congrats again on your cousin!!!!

Kudos to her!!! I love Ireland. So much more progressive in terms of women in policitics than we are.

OK, so this past year I haven't been keeping up with my cousins across "the pond".
Some were visiting this week and I found out my second cousin, Mary Coughlan, is now Tanaiste or Vice President of Ireland Effective May 8th.
She was the youngest woman ever elected to the Irish parliament at the age of 22 When she gave her first speech, entirely in Irish, more than half the chamber of geriatric old men walked out... she never let them see her sweat!! Go Mary!!
She's well liked by the other members of parliament and is known for bringing dissenting parties together.
OK, well her stance on gay marriage/adoption isn't ok in my book but divorce in Ireland only became legal in the last 15 years so I guess I can only expect so much.

DH is from Ireland. His next door neighbor back home is Michael Fitzpatrick who is in the Dail. He represents Kildare North.

what'a small world it is, DH's cousin is a TD in Ireland for Cavan and was just made Minister for Agriculture in the recent elections. So, I am sure they know of each other!!!!
Seems alot of LIF's have connections to the Irish gov't (see my OP above)
