On Demand Feeding --> Schedule UPDATE!
How do I transition DS (9 weeks) from on-demand feeding to more of a schedule? Just let him cry until the the next scheduled time to eat? My SIL said she did a schedule from the beginning but I can't imagine letting DS scream for an hour. He eats every 90 mins-2 hours and is EBF. Any advice or tips from those who have their little ones on more of a schedule would be helpful!
ETA - DS gets a bottle of BM every night at 8:30 and goes to bed at the same time, and wakes once to feed around 3am. Then up at 7am-ish every day...but during the day his eating/demand is completely erratic and unpredictable.

ETA 11/29 - THANK YOU for suggesting the "E.A.S.Y." method...I have been trying this all week and it's been working great...DS has been napping a TON and is on more of a "schedule" (but really just a predictable pattern, not to set times of the day per se).

On Demand Feeding --> Schedule
DD will be 12 weeks Wednesday. Sometimes she will fuss about an hour or so before her next feeding. We either hold her and pat her back and she will fall asleep or we put her on her tummy and she falls asleep. It's not for long but she wakes up not fussy and we can hold her off a bit more.

Can I ask why you're trying to switch to more of a "schedule?"
I fed on demand in the beginning and my kids just fell into their own schedule. At first it was every 2 hours, then every 3, then every 4. The babies are still on a 4-hour schedule now at 9 months.
9 weeks old is still very young! If baby is hungry, especially when EBF, I would feed him. Babies digest BM very easily, so it's natural for them to feel hungry sooner than a FF baby might be.

I never put my DS on a schedule and he has been great. He put himself on one and it has worked great because I am not forcign himself to eat or sleep. He went from a horrible colicy newborn to a wonderful 11 month old!

I just had DD wait about 15 mins and increased every week, if she was really upset then I would just feed her. Pacifiers help a lot and so does walks and baths, anything to distract her.

I didnt BF but at one point my DD was eating every 2 hours on the dot. She fell into her own schedule by herself and the feedings became more spread apart as she got a little but older.

Both my girls kinda just fell into a routine on thier own. I never really breastfed on demand bc they both never really gave hunger cues so I just fed every 2-3 hours, then every 3-4 hours.
Are you certain all of his daytime cries are due to hunger? If you just nursed him and he's crying an hour later I'd think it was for another reason. Maybe that's how I got them on a "schedule". I just assumed the couldn't possibly be hungry again so soon, so I'd try different things to see if she'd calm down.

I agree with this. At 7 months, I still feed on demand to an extent.

Some days he takes 4 naps and others he doesn't nap at all, and I thought if he had a set feeding at say, 11am I could put him down for nap after that so he'd get used to a regular daytime nap schedule.

A lot of time with the mat, she loved it. I also had a blanket and different toys in her room so we'd go in there to change things up. Also, I'd put her in the bouncer or prop her in the boppy and play with her. We also went out almost everyday (target, BRU, carters). It really helped to get out and she enjoyed it. We'd stay out window shopping until she got cranky and then once we headed home she'd pass out. At 3 months we also started doing library classes.
