On to another IUI #3, this time with a Twist...sigh
So, 14+ cycles au natural, no bueno. 2 cycles of femara alone, bust. 2 IUIs w/ Femara, nope.
GHI wont approve me for IVF because they are a bunch of &*^%$$^ Soooooo Dr. B (bless his heart:) moved me up to injectibles!
Starting tonight I will be taking 150/Follistim (every other night) and Femara (every night) for 5 days, followed by Ovidrel shot and b2b IUIs, got that ? phew. Seriously, who knew baby making would be THIS involved!!!!
My questions are:
How did folistim treat you? Any horrible side effects?
How much did you have to pay out of pocket for the follistim pen?
and, of course,
Has anyone gotten lucky with 150 of Follistim????
Please, please dear God let this be it for me, im exhausted just WRITING this, nevermind going through it.
Praying for us all to get our BFPs this month!!

Re: On to another IUI #3, this time with a Twist...sigh
That's basically my protocol this cycle!! Only, I used gonal-f, which is basically the same..
I responded VERY well. Of course everyone is different but he knows how you respond to meds by now and give you that protocol for a reason, I'm sure! By CD11 I developed FOUR good sized follies. We waited 2 days for my lining to thicken and then I triggered... just did b2b IUIs yesterday and today!!
Gonal-f didn't give me any side effects except some bloating It's not TOO bad though and find Ovidrel gets me bloated too so I just feel like, one way or another I'm destined to get the bloat!
For the payment.. with my insurance they cover 3 rounds of fertility meds in a lifetime. The office ordered me enough to last 2-3 cycles, so hopefully this will be it for us otherwise I may have to order more for next cycle!! Freedom Fertility's website has a breakdown of the cost of each size pen if you browse around there (if that's where you get your meds delivered from) ........ I'm assuming you use Freedom Fertility or Kraupners. In any case, I know that different size pens cost different amounts.
Good luck, I hope you respond as welll as I did to the same protocol!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: On to another IUI #3, this time with a Twist...sigh
I did pretty much the same protocol - twice. Here's how it worked out:
How did folistim treat you? Any horrible side effects? -Just a lot of bloating for the most part. -At the end of my second cycle i got really bad black and blues at the injection sites. i dont know why - i didnt have any for the other 15 shots that i did.
How much did you have to pay out of pocket for the follistim pen? -Dr. B's office donated it to me - someone had donated it. My insurance at the time did not cover any fertility meds (except femara since its not technically a fertility med) and I would not have been able to do the protocols if he did not donate it to me. I Dr. B!!!!!!!!!
Has anyone gotten lucky with 150 of Follistim???? -Depends what you mean - First cycle i did femara 2.5 cd4-8 and follistim 150ius cd4,6,8,10. i went in for monitoring on cd11 and had produced 10+ follies and hyperstimmed and the cycle was cancelled. I ended up getting a bit of OHSS and had severe bloating for a week or so and had to go on BCP for 3 weeks to dissolve the rest of the follies. Next cycle I started with femara 2.5mg CD1-5 and gonal-f 37.5ius cd1,3,5,7. this produced nothing...i ended up having to repeat femara at 5mg and do many more gonal-f shots at 75ius. i finally got 2 follies about 14mm. so we switched to follistim 75ius and they matured. i followed with ovidrel. I ended up having a chemical pregnancy. So yes - follistim helped me successfully produce follies. And technically i got pregnant one of those cycles but it didn't stick very long.
Overall once you get used to the protocol its really not so bad. I mean I wouldnt CHOOSE to have to do it - but its definitely tolerable.

Re: On to another IUI #3, this time with a Twist...sigh
I just found that I have elevated killer cells and elevated inflammatory cells. Dr. Braverman just told me that if my husband's blood work comes back ok then he can help me. I have had 9 iui's and 1 IVF cycle that failed. Can anyone out there please give me some good advise? My heart is breaking a little more each day and I just need some help.
